Forest Drive Market, 2522 Forest Drive: 2020 1 comment
This little off-brand convenience store has been here for as long as I can remember, though I seem to recall it used to be a bit more open-air. We never stopped there while I was growing up, but out of curiosity, I did stop by once when I started driving. What I recall most (I was a teenager) was a big wall-rack of magazines your mother wouldn't want you to look at. I noticed recently that both this and the adjacent ABC store seemed to be closed, and now there is a realty sign on the property (though the co-located beauty store is still open).
Kangaroo Express, 680 Wachesaw Road: 5 August 2020 (Reflagged) 2 comments
Kangaroo was bought out by Circle K several years ago, and in the Midlands, most stores transitioned some time ago.
This one, in Murrells Inlet held on for some reason, though as you can see the gas canopy recently underwent the re-branding. As I was driving by, I noticed the boxed sign out front which would complete the switch, and I expect next time I get down to the area, Kangaroo will have hopped away.
UPDATE 20 August 2020: Add "Reflagged" to the post title to note this is basically a branding change.
Stein Mart, 4840 Forest Drive: September 2020 2 comments
As noted by commenter Andrew and others, Stein Mart filed for Chapter 11 on 12 August 2020 and is expected to close most or all of its 281 stores across the country.
This story focuses on the Trenholm Plaza store, pictured above. A list of all of the announced store closings is here.
To the best of my recollection, I have never been inside this store, at least as Stein Mart. It is hard to say after so many years and upfits, but I believe this is the space once occupied by Tapp's Twig, a "smaller than a branch" storefront run by storied local department store Tapp's. If so, I would have been inside a number of times growing up.
Looking at the store closing list, I see the other local store is in Lexington, and I will try to get by before it is gone. In the meantime, the closing sale is already on, so we'll see if this location lasts into September.

UPDATE 21 September 2021 -- Now a Spirit Haloween:
The Golf Center, 74 Litchfield Drive: 2019 no comments
I noticed on my recent trip to the beach that this golf store in Litchfield Beach had closed. I'm not a golfer, so I never went inside, but they always had a note on their sign to the effect of "Come see the train", so I was tempted to stop every now and then just to see what it was.
This article from the Sun News says that the owner passed a few years ago and that his wife was continuing to run the store with a daughter, so perhaps she has now retired.
Eckerd Drugs / Rite Aid / Walgreens, 5900 North Main Street: 11 June 2020 8 comments
This Walgreen's was originally an Eckerd's and then a Rite Aid, as you can see from the design of the building. It sits on an oddly shapped lot at the intersection of North Main & Colonial, and was the only drug store in the general vicinity.
Here is a story from The State about the closing, and how the neighborhood was very unhappy about it. Here's more from WLTX

Uptown, 1204 Main Street: Summer 2020 (Open Again) 3 comments
Uptown gifts was the follow-on operation in this storefront to the venerable Capitol Newsstand where I made many finds back in the pre-internet age.
I had thought they set up shop in 2011, but based on this ColaDaily story, they must have moved in very shortly after Capitol closed. I never had the occasion to visit this store, but I did like the cityscape logo.
According to the linked story, they first shut down due to the COVID-19 mess, and then decided to just move on.
This makes two vacancies on the east side of this block, as there is still no action in the Persona location.

UPDATE 8 October 2020 -- As reported in the comments and ColaDaily, Uptown is open again under new ownership.
Victoria's Secret, 481 Town Center Place Suite G-100: June 2020 17 comments
I don't think Victoria's Secret is officially bankrupt, but apparently a planned buyout fell through leaving the chain in desperate straits. Of course the COVID-19 crisis didn't help any either, and they are now in the process of closing 250 some stores.
This Sandhill location apparently closed in June as reported by commenter Bethany, but when I drove by then, the signage was still up, and the merchandise was still inside -- the "Lock the doors" order must have come down very quickly. When I got back in early July, the storefront was cleaned-out and blank.
I see from the label-scar that they were neighbors with a maternity store called Motherhood which pre-deceased VS and for which I never did a closing.

Factory Outlet / Spring Valley Antique Mall, 8808 Two Notch Road: March 2020 (Open again, closing again) 3 comments
Well, they door signs only call out a temporary closing due to the crisis, but with the real estate sign by the road, and the LoopNet listing, I'm afraid we can chalk up another casualty of COVID-19.
I have been in this antique mall many times over the years, but not in the last several years for some reason or another. I'm trying to think if I actually bought anything there, and I can't bring anything to mind, though I do specifically recall looking for old phonebooks there (and not finding any -- they are surprisingly rare). With the closing of Ole Town Antique Mall and Columbia Antique Mall, this leaves Old Mill on State Street as the only sizable area antique mall I can think of.
UPDATE 10 July 2020: Commenter Dennis offers that this building was once a "Brown Sign With The Sewing Machine In The Corner" Factory Outlet, so I have added that to the post title. See also here for the Factory Outlets. Also adding the map icon, which I forgot.
UPDATE 17 March 2023: Well, the place did not sell, opened again, and is now holding a retirement sale in advance of closing again:
Pier 1 Imports, 6090 Garners Ferry Road Suite D: July 2020 2 comments
I have written about Pier 1 Imports before and don't have much to say about this store. I think I was inside once some ten years or so ago. The whole chain is in bankruptcy now and all the stores are shutting. Wikipedia says they are still hoping for a buyer to keep the online side of the brand alive, but to me that seems like a longshot.
UPDATE 16 September 2021 -- As mentioned in the comments, now, temporarily a Spirit Haloween:
