Sub Station II, 2015 Devine Street: 4 March 2022 4 comments
Substation II was the follow-on operation in this storefront to Jimmy John's, and opened in 2019. I know that going there would be an issue for me because of parking, but I'm not a student without a car. Then of course there was the pandemic, which can't have helped. For whatever reason though, this storefront is now again vacant.

UPDATE 14 June 2024: Update title & tags.
Good Greens, 10008 Two Notch Road Suite A: March 2022 1 comment
I was unfamiliar with this healthy eatery on Two Notch near Popeye's, but I do note that the storefront has featured here twice before as both Jimmy John's and Quiznos. I was a little surprised that they featured pizza, next door to a Papa Johns, but I suppose they had a dine in space to make that make sense.
As you can see, the interior is being actively torn down, so that may mean that the next idea for this spot is already on the way.

UPDATE 1 March 2023 -- Now The Baked Potato Factory:
Hardee's, 1325 Dutch Fork Road: Late March 2022 5 comments
Here's another Hardee's closed, this one on Dutch Fork Road. I'm starting to think there is something going on with the chain, as it seems quite a few have gone dark over the last year or two.
I see they just named a new CEO last week, but it's a press release, so there is no analysis there. (I will note that the corporate-speak is so thick there, that they think a paragraph like:
"We are excited to welcome Brandon to our talented Leadership Team. His entrepreneurial spirit, strong finance focus and results orientation will be perfect complements to our team," says Chief Executive Officer Ned Lyerly. "Brandon's proven track record in dynamic, multi-unit food service environments will be on display as we build on our momentum and create value for stakeholders in our business."
sounds reasonable..)

Columbia Powersports, 6217 Two Notch Road: Early 2022 (Consolidated) 5 comments
Columbia Powersports have closed this location on Two Notch Road, not far from Arcadia Lakes Drive. Commenter Gypsie supplies the information that they had been here since 1976. It appears that they have consolidated operations at the 3750 Fernandina Road location.
In the meantime, this building is to become (or perhaps already is) Precision Pumping Systems.

The Carousel, 4525 Forest Drive: March 2022 1 comment
There isn't any sign on the door that I can see, but google agrees with commenter Justin that The Carousel A Chic Kid's Botique in Forest Village is closed. I believe this space would once have been part of The Happy Bookseller, so probably 2009 is the earliest they could have opened.

It's A Wrap Cafe, 5341 Sunset Boulevard: Never opened 1 comment
I am pretty sure that It's A Wrap Cafe in Topspin Plaza never opened. According to ColaDaily, they were trying to move here from Atlanta in 2020 -- probably about the worst time since the Great Depression to open a restaurant. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but in the end they are back in Atlanta, with this comment on their Facebook:
It’s a lot of you that seem to think we’re posting from South Carolina! We are IN ATLANTA!!! Link in bio! SOUTH Carolina missed out because they…. 😩 we will just say it wasn’t in GODS plan! 😉
So apparently they took the long way round, but it seems to be working out for them, so good. In the meantime, this storefront is available.
The Karate Dojo, 2263 Sunset Boulevard: 2022 (Moved) no comments
The Karate Dojo moved into this space in the fall of 2012, occupying the old Wood Zone space at Sunset Court.
As of now, they have moved about half a block toward Columbia to 2225 Sunset in a building I somehow managed not to get a picture of.
UPDATE 17 June 2022 -- Here is their new building:
Wilder Realty, 5078 Sunset Boulevard: 2021 (Moved) no comments
I noticed this vacant storefront in McCauley Square on Sunset Boulevard last weekend.
It appears that the realty office has moved to Old Rapids Road, and given that the creation date for the PDF flyer is 28 December 2021, I am guessing that the move took place sometime before that.
The LoopNet listing has quite a nice aerial view of the place, with the signage still up.
The Free Times, 1534 Main Street: 2018ish (Moved) 10 comments
Way back in the dark ages when I first started this blog (working by candlelight on a steam-powered computer), I wondered why I wasn't getting any hits or comments. I figured I would eventually get traffic from Google but it wasn't happening, and I felt like I was posting into a black hole. I finally decided I could either give it up, or take a shot at doing a little advertising.
After poking around on their website for a while, I figured that I could afford a month or so online advertising with The Free Times, and looking at their requirements, I came up with this ad:
Although I was really dragging (it later turned out I had pneumonia..) I burned it to CDROM, made an appointment and took it down to this office (which was pretty nice). Things went very smoothly (which was good because I could barely sit up straight), and the ad rep was helpful, looked at the files and got right on it. The next day, as I recall, the ad went up, and almost immediately I started getting comments (I suspect some were from Free Times staff the guy had told about my odd little project).
(It also later developed that I wasn't getting any Google traffic because the default WordPress setting is "do not allow this blog to be searched". Who knew..)
Anyway, that was the only time I went in this office. I know that before this location, they were at Sunset Boulevard near the Chicken Plant, and that after the Post & Courier bought them, they moved to a building on the corner of Gervais & Harden where they are now.
UPDATE 28 March 2022 -- Here is their current office at 2101 Gervais Street:
Rick's Bait And Tackle Party Shop, 3050 Bluff Road: 2020 no comments
Rick's was a fishing and ABC store right across Bluff Road from the Columbia Industrial Park. I never went in, but I would see it often driving to and from work a few years ago. This is right next door to the old Cricket Club/Diamonds and the old Grasshopper Club/Vet's Hall. I'm not sure when they closed, but it's been long enough to board the place up and take down the road sign, so I'm going to guess 2020.
