KJ's Market, 2349 Augusta Road: 8 July 2025 8 comments
Commenter Cats provides the closing date here, but the news has been out for a while. This site first featured here as a Bi-Lo, and for a while it looked like a successful bid to bring the IGA model into more urban territory, but in the event the one closer to Lexington closed in 2022, and this closure leaves Saint Andrews Road as their only location as far as I am aware.

Overall, the employees here were polite and friendly. I never had to go looking for a cashier (as I have at other places), and if a line was long, someone was quick to open another register.
However, the prices on many items were absurd. Just one example, some frozen pizzas were almost $13 when they often cost $8-9 at stores. I mostly bought some of the cheaper store brand / discount brand items that were decent quality.

* at OTHER stores is what I meant to say in my previous comment
I know many people would like to see a Publix or a Lowe's Foods here, but I can't imagine those companies wanting to open a location in this shopping plaza. Not unless the entire plaza is remodeled someday. It doesn't have the right aesthetic in my opinion.

KJ's and Lowes Foods are owned by a company called Alex Lee, Inc.
I feel like this leaves a grocery void but I'm not sure who could feasibly fill it...Food Lion strikes me as the most likely candidate but I'm not sure they'd do so since they didn't buy it when they bought the other 63 they did as Southeastern Grocers was phasing out Bi-Lo.

I did NOT know that KJ's was owned by Lowe's Foods until I read the comments on this site! I knew their prices were higher than most grocery stores & now I know why!
Would love to see a Lidl's in this location - a little competition with the Aldi down the street!JayZee

Signage was off the KJ's on Friday, July 11 when I was in the shopping center. I also hope a Lidl opens there but I believe Lidl prefers standalone buildings based on the few I have seen in the US.

I found a lot of stuff to be really high priced, especially beer.

Glad this store is gone. Terrible quality produce. I miss the BI-LO that was in this location. Wonder whats coming next?
