I have been going through some old pictures the last several days, and ran across this set, which I had staged for uploading back in 2015. I'm not sure if I actually did do a post, and it was lost in the database crash of a few years ago, or if I just dropped the ball for some reason. (I certainly can no longer say I remember each and every post!).

Anyway, Jordan's Modern Bride & Groom was located in The Shops of O'Neil Court. After closing this store, it appears they moved to Spring Valley Commons and then decided to take the store online in 2016.

Fat Buddies Two, 1160 Chapin Road Suite D: 2014   no comments

I was going through some old pictures this evening, and found the above, which I have no memory of having taken. The shot is from 26 April 2015, and from what I can find online, Fat Buddies Two probably closed sometime in 2014 and was near the Publix at Chapin Crossing. The Yelp reviews are sparse, but seem to agree the wings were pretty small.

Freebird Lounge, US-17 Georgetown: 1990s   1 comment

I don't know much about the Freebird Lounge other than it occupied a very distinctive building on the east side of US-17 south of the Sampit river bridge in Georgetown. I would often note it as I drove to Charleston. In the years when the signage was still up, there always seemed to be a table lamp visible through an upstairs window at night.

The lounge has been closed for some years -- I'm going to say since sometime in the 90s, and I noticed last year that the building itself was for sale. I haven't driven that way in a while, so I can't say what the current status is.

Ozzie's Country Island, 1420 Charleston Highway: November 2019   5 comments

I have not been able to get over here during the daytime with time to stop, but here are some night shots of the former Ozzie's on the Charleston Highway near the former Kmart.

Judging by the google reviews, it was a country sports-bar with live music. The most recent reviews are tagged, rather vaguely, 3 Months Ago, but it was reported here on 12 December 2019, so I am just calling the closing "November 2019".

To me it looks as though it might have been a restaurant at one time, and commenter badger60 suggests it was another club, called Crockett's back in the 80s.

There are a lot of Asian buffets in the DC area, and I used to end up there with the local staff whenever I was visiting the DC office. Frankly, I never cared for it, so I have not tried any of the various Asian buffets in the Columbia area, and was not aware this one existed until commenter Sidney reported it closed.

I will say it's a good looking building, though a bit hard to get to if you are heading toward Sandhill. This area certainly has changed a lot in the past few years, and there's no sign of that stopping.

I note that the door sign directs customers to the Magnolia Buffet in the old Ryan's on Two Notch, so I guess that has the same ownership.

Dairy Queen, 462540 State Road 200 Yulee Florida: Fall 2017   4 comments

Posted at 11:49 pm in closing

I noticed on my last trip to Fernandina, that this old-school Dairy Queen on historic Florida Route A1A, just off of I-95 in Yulee Florida was closed. (You can see it, poorly, in operation in the first shot).

If I had to guess a cause, it would be the interminable road construction on this stretch of A1A, which has made this parking lot almost inaccessible, especially if west bound. Of course the walk-up design has its drawbacks as well: One review advises eating in your car to avoid the no-see-ums.

For now the nearby produce & souvenir stand is holding on despite the acess problems. I would be sad to see that go, as it has been there forever, and always has good citrus & candies.

Last time I drove down Fernandina Road, I realized I missed seeing the colorful mosiacs on this building at 3202. Doing a little research shows that local design shop N-Graphix moved down the road to 4046 Fernandina Rd, Suite F sometime after mid-2015.

I wish Lawyer Lisa well, but will miss the distinctive look of the building.

UPDATE 12 March 2020 -- I found some better pictures. Also adding the map icon I forgot:

Zale's Jewelers / Jimmy Jazz / Airbrush Unlimited: Summer 2019 (etc)   no comments

I never did a closing for Zale's Jewelers, but it was a long time occupant of this second level storefront, just out of Macy's going left. After that, it was Jimmy Jazz for a while, as you can barely see in the second picture above. Most recently, it was an airbrush shop for tee-shirt customization. Judging by the google reviews, they did a good job, but were gone by sometime in the late summer of 2019. I'm not entirely sure, but it looks as though they may still have a location elsewhere in the area.

I didn't go there too often, but I liked Earth Fare. It was kind of in between The Fresh Market (one of my main go-tos) and Whole Foods, but without being obnoxious like Whole Foods.

As The State reported, the chain announced on 3 February 2020 that they were going into liquidation and closing all stores:

In a news release Monday, the Asheville-based company pointed to “challenges in the retail industry” that have kept the company from expanding and improving and have hindered “its ability to refinance its debt.”

“As a result, Earth Fare is not in a financial position to continue to operate on a go-forward basis. As such, we have made the difficult, but necessary decision to commence inventory liquidation sales while we continue to engage in a process to find potential suitors for our stores,” the company said in its release.

As of yesterday (16 February 2020), the store was still open, but I did not go inside to see how picked-over it was.

UPDATE 14 August 2020 -- The new owners are apparently about ready to reopen. The shelves are stocked with non-perishables, and they are hiring:

Back in the day:

I did a closing for this building when I referenced that it had at one time been Andy's Deli. I ate there once that I can recall, and while it was OK, it was never going to be one of my regular stops. The current owner is not "Albert", but Adrianne Davidson, and according to this ColaDaily article, she has decided to sell the building and concentrate on catering from the 1901 Main Street location, which I was not aware of.
