I first wrote about this building when the plans for Fresh Market to open there fell through. After that, and a little scrambling, the Publix supermarket chain decided it would be a good location for their Greenwise concept:

Publix Supermarkets is opening a new type of grocery store in Lexington soon.

“We’re creating a community gathering place where high-quality natural and organic products are at the center of what we offer,” said Publix President Kevin Murphy. “And we’re helping our customers support their healthy lifestyle with convenient in-house prepared meals and grab and go options made from organic and antibiotic-free ingredients.”

The place opened in December of 2019, and will be closing well shy of the one year mark:

“We have made the difficult decision to close both GreenWise Market locations in South Carolina,” director of communications Maria Brous told Cola Daily. “Both locations were acquisitions that fit our needs at the time of opening; however, as our concept has evolved, the locations have space constraints that will not fit our current vision for GreenWise Markets.”

Basically it seems the building was just too small, which is unsurprising given the standard Fresh Market footprint.

The employees will have the option to move to local Publix locations, which is nice.

I never went in the store though I was a bit curious and figured I eventually would. I will say however, that I do not like the way the parking and traffic flow for the enclosing strip mall is laid out at all.

UPDATE 18 June 2022 -- It looks like Prisma Health will be going into this site:

  1. Sad. I liked the environment of the store. The employees were very friendly and helpful. However, the building was a bit cramped for what they were trying to do.

  2. I really liked that store, though I only went a few times because it's not that close to me. In fact, thanks for the reminder, I might go again tomorrow before they officially close (maybe there will be some deals?!). Oh well, not like they had anything specific that can't be found at any other high-end store.

  3. Me and Mom went here after 6 months after the store open. We didn't that the store was there in lexington. My Mom loved it when she first went it. They had a make your own pizza, burrito/burrito bowl AND a sushi/ramen station. Plus they had a wine thingy for all the fans of wine to create their own wine potion. It sucks that they had to leave. We have enough publixes around the city let's at least have one greenwise. If Greenwise was somewhere between forest acres and devine street I think it would have done better. They will be missed.

  4. Location was a factor. I adapted to to getting in and out. The Hobby Lobby does a good business there but it has the easy straight shot access. We can only wonder how a Whole Foods would have fared in this spot.

They had a nice cafe that included beer & wine where you could hang out. There were also tables outside with overhead fans and things were looking up this spring with more people coming in. They shut down the cafe and patio when Covid came in the spring and only a few loyal customers stuck with them til the end.

  5. I recently rode down this stretch of 378 and it looks like Prisma is moving some type of offices in (I wasn't able to figure out details)...

  6. Prisma has a Cardiology and OBGYN offices in this building. It’s been open for a while (maybe a year) now.
