Dazzles Pageant & Prom Attire, 2500 North Beltline Boulevard: Spring 2012 (moved) 6 comments
I'm afraid I'm well past prom age, so I wasn't really aware of this little formal-wear shop in the plaza which houses
Dazzles is listed in this year's (February 2012) phonebook, so the closing seems to be fairly recent. I wonder if the economy is cutting into prom spending -- it certainly has affected everything else.
UPDATE 21 May 2012: Commenter Larry notes that Dazzles has moved to Boozer Shopping Center, so I have added "moved" to the post title.
UPDATE 2 June 2012 -- Here is their new Boozer Shopping Center location:
Bi-Lo #184, 275 Harbison Boulevard: 26 February 2002 11 comments
I'm not when this Bi-Lo closed, but it's listed in the February 1997 phonebook and was gone by the mid 2000s. Actually, I'm not entirely sure it closed, as the Bi-Lo on Saint Andrews Road is fairly new -- perhaps it relocated to there.
It was apparently replaced by two stores, an A C Moore craft store in most of the space, and Total Wine in the rest.
There has been a fair bit of churn in this plaza (which fronts on both Harbison and Columbiana). Over the years I've featured Computer Renaissance, and Gold's Gym, but there are a number I never got around to.
UPDATE 20 May 2012: Added the store number and exact closing date to the post title based on information from commenters Andrew & Irmojeff.
Liberty Tax Service / African Hair Braiding by Dianna, 4453 Devine Street: 2009 / 2011 no comments
Here's another storefront on that odd little strip of Devine Street which also housed Brassworks, Le Petit Chateau, and a number of other businesses from days gone by.
As you can see from the hairdresser's sink at the back of the space, Dianna's was the last operation in here. These pictures were taken on 16 December 2011, so they were already gone by then, but they are listed in the February 2012 phonebook, so I'm guessing they did not close too long before that.
The operation before Dianna's was Liberty Tax Service, which, I believe, did not close, but simply moved down the street a bit.
Hospice Care Charity Inc. Thrift Store, 1217 Sunset Boulevard: August 2011 1 comment
This Charity thrift store was in the same building as The Southern Skillet just one space to the right (north). I know very little about this place other than that it was listed in the February 2011 phonebook, but not the February 2012, so I'm assuming it closed last year.
UPDATE 4 June 2012: Updated closing date from "2011" to "August 2011" based on commenter Andrew's research.
Pasta Fresca, 3405 Forest Drive: 5 May 2012 (moved) 14 comments
The Southern Skillet, 1213 Sunset Boulevard: April 2012 16 comments
Commenter south mauldin asks whether The Southern Skillet on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia is closed.
I'm afraid the answer is: Yes. However, it appears that the owner, or perhaps the cook, has set up a new business in Cayce as described here and here, so all is not lost.
Fast Cash Payday Advance, 4464 Devine Street: 2010 11 comments
Here's yet another Payday loan storefront that is no longer with us. This one is in the Bi-Lo/Staples plaza at the confluence of Devine, Cross Hill and Fort Jackson Boulevard. (Curiously, this strip mall does not seem to have a name, or at least not one on its marquee.)
Not that this closing leaves the place without a loan operation -- this is where Capitol Loan Office moved to from Main Street. And also note that if you lease this space, you apparently get a free MoneyGram neon sign, which is kind of nifty.
PC Corner, 7384 Two Notch Road: early 2012 16 comments
Garden Place Plaza is the strip mall at the south west corner of Two Notch Road and O'Neil Court, and has featured here at least twice before as both end anchors (Floor It Now & Beds Plus) closed.
Now computer store PC Corner (which was *not* in a corner spot.. ) has joined them, and fairly recently I think, as it was listed in this year's (February 2012) phonebook.
UPDATE 13 May 2012 -- Commenter Terry sends in this 1994 receipt for a top-of-the-line PC Corner system. Hey Terry, I think you can let that receipt go now -- I'm pretty sure the warranty has expired!
Todd & Moore, 225 O'Neil Court: March 2012 13 comments
Sportings goods store Todd & Moore has been a fixture on O'Neil Court for seemingly as long as I can remember. It's not a place I've ever been in because, well, to say I'm not sports oriented is perhaps to understate the matter, but believe my mother got the one tennis racket I ever owned (wooden, with a wooden press) from here, or from some Todd & Moore location at any rate.
Here is the original State article announcing the protracted closing of the O'Neil Court store, which started in January, as seen in the first couple of pictures below (taken on a rainy night) and finished up in late March.
Yes, there are too many pictures -- I'm a sucker for clouds. Also notice that the New Balance marquee got taken down at some point.
