Kitty's Hallmark, 130 Forum Drive Suite 4: 21 September 2019 no comments
I don't really get over to this side of Sandhill very often, and I didn't actually remember that there was a Kitty's here. My favorite's were always Hallmark Lite: 1/3 Less Serious Than Regular Cards, and I was disappointed when they discontinued them years ago. I still do like the Shoebox label, albeit not quite as much.
This closure leaves Kitty's without a store in Columbia, though they are still in the Midlands with Irmo & Lexington locations.

Yogen Fruz, 480 Town Center Place: August 2019 2 comments
I'm not going to attempt the metal umlaut in the post title, but Yogen Früz is a froyo franchaise operation which is still in operation, though this closure leaves the nearest store in Florida or possibly Virginia. I guess it's not too surprising that if an ice cream or froyo shop is going to close, the start of colder weather is a trigger [this was wrong: see note below].
This location is on the same "block" with the former corner Starbucks (and in fact you can somewhat see it in those pictures), and across from the centeral traffic island/venue at Sandhill.

UPDATE 6 November 2019 -- Ref commenter JB, I was wrong that this was a fall closing. I have changed post title date to from Fall 2019 to August 2019.
Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, 130 Forum Drive Suite 14: 21 April 2019 1 comment
I have to admit that the one time I tried Rita's (the one in Harbison) I was not impressed. I had the Key-lime ice, and it had such an after-taste that I eventually had to buy a salty snack to chase it with. Perhaps I would have been happier with custard.
At any rate, the one at Sandhill is now gone, leaving just the Lady Street location locally. Of course as there is now apparently a Pelican's on every corner, your options for slushes are still pretty good.
UPDATE 30 August 2021 -- This is surprising: Bruster's ice cream is using this vacancy to re-enter the Columbia market:
Nestle Toll House Cafe / Planet Smoothie, 461 Town Center Place Suite 1: 28 April 2019 1 comment
I got a couple of reports in June of 2017 that this place had closed. I actually did drive out there to get some pictures, and found that they were actually closed for upfitting as they were adding a Planet Smoothie operation.
In the event that must not have worked out for them, as they are closed for good this, with their Facebook page citing "Many factors" in the decision.
To me, the location appears pretty good as it is catty-cornered from the Sandhill movie theaters, and would be a good place to get a snack while waiting for your movie. Of course that only works if your movie is pretty early.

Miyo's , 715 Fashion Drive Suite 1: 31 March 2019 5 comments
When I took these pictures on 30 March, I couldn't see any indication on the door that the place was about to close, but apparently by the last day, it was there.
I have never eaten at any of the Miyo's or M locations, but I believe this one had been at Sandhill from the early days.

UPDATE 22 May 2019: The State says this is to become an El Jimador.
Crazy 8, 470 Town Center Place Suite 7: March 2019 7 comments
I did not know this, but Crazy 8 was part of Gymboree, with the second bankruptcy of that chain taking out these stores as well.
According to Wikipedia:
Crazy 8 was started in August 2007. It features lower priced clothing and is Gymboree's direct competitor for The Children's Place and Old Navy.
In the event, I guess that didn't work out too well.

Things Remembered, 471 Town Center Place: February 2019 1 comment
I was not aware of Things Remembered, but apparently it is a personalized gifts store, with a complicated history with ties to Sears, Pearl Vision & Yankee Candle.
They filed for Chapter 11 on 6 February 2019 "as part of a plan to be acquired by Enesco, a giftware, home décor and accessories company". Here is a Forbes article that explains the problems, and then, oddly, turns into a Shinola commercial.
There is another local Things Remembered in Columbiana Centre, and I am not sure what its status is.
Just for reference, here is the current status of The Village At Sandhill as per their public directories on 18 February 2019:

Wisteria Aveda Salon, 631-14 Promenade Place: June 2018 2 comments
I know very little about hair salons, but apparently Wisteria is a chain which is still active in the Upstate. This particular location seems to have been active last month (May 2018) based on reviews, so I'm guessing the closing date was probably the start of June. (I'll also note that the reviews seem to have taken a dip recently, though in general the people most motivated to review are those who are unhappy..).
I didn't know where the place was, so I stopped to look at the Sandhill directory, which you can read if you click-through to the high res version. There are definitely a good few vacant spots on the map. With the recent bad news out of the place, you have to wonder what the future will bring.

Burlington Coat Factory, Columbia Mall: January 2018 (moving) 30 comments
As mentioned in the comments by several people, Burlington Coat Factory is closing their Columbia Mall store to relocate to a newly built building at Village At Sandhill. The final sale has now started.
Burlington occupied the first floor of the former Columbia Mall J C Penny location after Penny's itself moved to Sandhill (I don't appear to have done a closing for that for some reason). The second floor was never repurposed and remains vacant. This move will leave that side of the mall without any semblance of an anchor store. In fact, all of the former anchors, save for Macy's are now gone, and Macy's as a chain is having its problems as well. The idea has recently been mooted for Richland County to buy the whole property for offices. I don't know -- I think at this point, razing the buildings, plowing the parking lot and planting trees might be the way to go. Charlton Heston could ride through on a horse..
UPDATE 7 February 2018 -- Here is the new Sandhill building (not yet occupied):
JP's 4 Corners Southwest Grill, 150 Forum Drive: September 2017 5 comments
JP's 4 Corners was the followup operation to Arizona's and kept some of the same menu after the switchover. Since you could get a burger there, I would have been happy enough to try it out, but in the event never got around to it, especially as both Five Guys and Red Robin are also located at Sandhill.
I have to say that the reviews at Open Table are interesting to say the least, and almost prompt me to add a Sign #7 to the Signs Your Favorite Restaurant Is About to Close list:
7) Your restaurant is in Columbia South Carolina, and has no air conditioning during the month from Mid July to Mid August.
As far as I can tell, the Greenville location is still open, or at least no reviewers have noted it as closed yet. I believe that one also was once an Arizona's. The Web Site does appear to be down however as at least one review does note.
