B&B Theatres Amelia Island, 1132 South 14th Street (Fernandina Beach): 27 January 2021 no comments
I wrote in 2016 about the closing of Island Cinema 7 in Fernandina Beach. Somewhat to my surprise, instead of staying vacant, or becoming a dollar cinema, B&B Theaters moved into the spot and the Island once again had a first-run movie theater.
I saw several films there under the new regime, and it was pretty nice. I know I saw one there in December of 2021, but I am currently unable to remember what it was, which is too bad, as it will be the last.
The Fernandina News Leader reports that the theaters closed on 27 January 2021, a little more than a month after I was there last. Apparently the spece is to become doctors' offices, though I saw no signs of that upfit during my visit in May 2022.
As before, the closest theater is now on A1A coming into the Island from Yulee.
Wild Birds Unlimited, 130 Forum Drive Suite 3: May 2022 (Moved) 3 comments
I stopped by Lowes Food in Sandhill the other day, and noticed that the Wild Birds Unlimited outlet there has moved from the left side of Lowes to the right side at 110 Forum Drive Suite 12. I'm not sure what the motivation was as both storefronts look to be about the same size. Perhaps there's a more foot traffic closer to the Lowes doors. Anyway, you can see a better picture than any of these (taken against the sun) here.
Cash-O-Matic, 407 Charleston Highway: 2015 no comments
For some reason I thought I had done this Cash-O-Matic just down from the Triangle City Zesto some time ago. In the event it appears not, though I did get to the ones on Broad River Road and Sunset Drive. As nearly as I can tell, this one closed down sometime around 2015.
I admit I still like the name.
Unity Medical & Wellness, 74 Polo Road: 2 July 2021 6 comments
I had never noticed this medical office slightly up the hill from The former Stein Mart, but driving by the other day saw a real estate sign and took a look. According to the door sign they closed about a year ago, and I will say the google reviews are interesting.
I'm not sure how my camera got into 1:1 square aspect ratio, but that's why the first pictures look a bit odd.
Sugar & Spice Lingerie & Gag Gifts, 1002 Meeting Street: Spring 2022 no comments
I've noticed this hot-pink lingerie shop in West Columbia many times over the years. I think I even got some pictures of it some time back, though, as usual, I can't find them now. At any rate, it appears they have closed sometime in the last few months.
There seems to be some confusion about the name. Online sources use Sugar 'n Spice Lingerie, but the sign actually says Sugar & Spice Lingerie & Gag Gifts.
It will be interesting to see what goes in here next -- I assume they will paint the building.
The Turning Pointe, 5143 Forest Drive: 2022 (Moved) 3 comments
After Steak & Ale closed, this building was split into two suites. The suite on the right side was Buster's Bistro and then I believe a health insurance brokerage while the suite on the left side was The Turning Pointe danceware. Now they have left for a new home at 1030 Harden Street, the old Cribb's Bakery location.
Cottle Strawberries maintains a produce stand on the lot during the Spring, but otherwise I believe the property is now untenanted though it does appear to have been sold so something new should be coming soon.
UPDATE 27 September 2022 -- This building is gone. The motel next door is also behind fencing, but has not yet met the excavator:
Russell & Jeffcoat / Coldwell Banker, 459 Saint Andrews Road: 2021 no comments
Buildings of this distinctive pattern were built as Russell & Jeffcoat locations, with Coldwell Banker acquiring the properties when they bought the firm in 2016 after the passing of founder Bob Russell. Since then, there have been a number of closings and consolidations of the offices, and this Saint Andrews Road building is currently vacant.

Taylor's Poultry Place, 4701 Augusta Road: 2020 1 comment
I have been thinking for a while now that Taylor's Poultry Place on Augusta Road was closed, but as I almost always drove by on a weekend day, I really wasn't sure. Now the place definitely is, and has signage (and banners) up for the next operation, which is to be a tire store.
There aren't many google reviews for Taylor's (though those that are there are positive), but judging by those, they probably closed around 2020.
Jimmy John's, 5910 Garners Ferry Road: 12 June 2022 (Open Again) 2 comments
I got a bit of a surprise today when I decided I wanted a JJ BLT for lunch.
It seems that yesterday, somebody drove a car into the front of the Woodhill Jimmy John's. I presume it was an accident, since you would not expect to find a lot of cash in a sandwich shop. According to the door sign, nobody was hurt, which is the important thing, and they expect to reopen as quickly as possible.
UPDATE 28 September 2022: This location is open again. Also updating tags.
Pita Pit, 2002 Greene Street: Spring 2022 2 comments
Pita Pit on Main Street featured here two years ago, and I was unaware at the time that there was a Five Points location.
It appears that this one, just up the hill a bit from Papa Jazz may have closed previously and then come back under new ownership. It looks to have gotten good reviews, but to have closed sometime this Spring. (There is no date on the door sign).
