Taco Cid, 3313 Platt Springs Road: 3 July 2015 1 comment
Well, this seems to be the end of local fast Mexican stalwart, Taco Cid. This is a chain that once had a presence as far abroad as both Greenvilles, though it was recently down to one, non-custom-built, storefront location near the airport (having moved from the Charleston Highway in the summer of 2014).
I used to frequent the Decker location from time to time as part of a pre-roadtrip ritual, and thought it was pretty decent. In recent years, the chain has gotten some negative publicity over an edgy ad campaign, and some people have said here that they also lost their longtime sauce recipe to a change in food service vendors.
At any rate, while a sign inside the closed Platt Spring Road location offers some hope for the future, it appears that at this time, the Taco Cid website is down and the Taco Cid Facebook page has been closed.
For now, you can see the final cached version of that facebook page, announcing the closing, here.

Hi Ted. I wonder if they will actually reopen. That was a pretty bad spot, but they may have just signed a 1yr lease with options, or something.
I noticed the below post on their Facebook page from June. It's #1 on your "Signs your favorite restaurant is about to close."

Dang.
Well I wasn't going back anyway due to the poor quality.
Taco Cid hasn't been the same since before they moved.
So I've already grieved and am not surprised.
Now.. should they reopen at another location, which I doubt they will, I'll give them a try one or two more times but, if for ANY reason I'm dissatisfied, that's it for me.

I gave them a shot in this new place despite their racist shirt fiasco in the old place. The first time I went, right at noon, they couldn't serve me. Why? No meat. They'd run out of meat, so the cook - there were only two employees working - had run to the grocery store to get some. The guy at the register had no idea when the cook might be back, and he didn't really care. I asked if maybe, since they'd run out of meat the night before, that was something someone could have addressed before opening that morning? Just a shrug from the cashier. No one really cared.
So I went back a second time, because my friends raved about it. Bland, tiny tacos. So bland. Everything was so, so bland. Tried a Cid Pie, too, and the apples inside were barely cooked.
So yeah, I'm not surprised that they closed down. Surprised it took them this long.
