Kaboto Express, 7132 Parklane Road Suite A: January 2019 1 comment
Kaboto Express was the follow-on in this storefront to Schlotzsky's Deli, and opened around September of 2011.
I notice that their initial signage did not include the phrase Hibachi Grill, and I wonder if they just weren't finished putting up the sign, or if that was a later direction shift.

UPDATE 7 February 2020 -- Slice of Columbia is open (and has been for a while):
H & R Block, 1945 Decker Boulevard Suite 2: September 2018 no comments
I used H & R Block when I was living in Aiken, and finally gave up on doing my own taxes (which is a sad commentary on something). They seemed pretty good, and the process wasn't too painful as long as I had my ducks in a row. I never used this office, but I expect it was about the same.
The pictures are awful, both shot against the sun, and through the windows. Sorry about that!

Roof Jewelers, 6829 Two Notch Road: June 2018 (moving) 1 comment
I tend to end up at Roof about once a year, as it it my go-to place for watch batteries and watchbands. According to The State they will be moving to Four J's Plaza on Forest Drive sometime this month.
From my point of view, this is about a wash, location-wise as both addresses are fairly convenient for me. It is another hit for Dentsville though.
UPDATE 28 June 2018 -- The new location:
Harveys Supermarket, 2230 Decker Boulevard: Spring 2018 8 comments
Here's another Harveys, this one on Decker. As with all the other Harveys, this one used to be a Bi-Lo, and I did a closing for that here.
The strip mall anchored by this storefront is High Point On Decker, and it is about at the top of the hill. Just down the hill from here is another strip mall with both a Food Lion and a Rite Aid, so I'm not sure another grocer will want to locate here.
UPDATE 17 May 2018 -- This store is now closed:
Havertys Furniture, 7515 Two Notch Road: February 2018 7 comments
Havertys recently moved their Colonial Life Boulevard store to Harbison. I think the move added a bit of size to that store, and perhaps they think one larger store is enough, but whatever the reason, the Two Notch Road store near the I-20 interchange in Dentsville is now closing.
As a side note, the old Ramada Inn property almost directly across the street remains vacant after almost eight years..

Burlington Coat Factory, 7201 Two Notch Road: January 2018 (Moved) 30 comments
As mentioned in the comments by several people, Burlington Coat Factory is closing their Columbia Mall store to relocate to a newly built building at Village At Sandhill. The final sale has now started.
Burlington occupied the first floor of the former Columbia Mall J C Penny location after Penny's itself moved to Sandhill (I don't appear to have done a closing for that for some reason). The second floor was never repurposed and remains vacant. This move will leave that side of the mall without any semblance of an anchor store. In fact, all of the former anchors, save for Macy's are now gone, and Macy's as a chain is having its problems as well. The idea has recently been mooted for Richland County to buy the whole property for offices. I don't know -- I think at this point, razing the buildings, plowing the parking lot and planting trees might be the way to go. Charlton Heston could ride through on a horse..
UPDATE 7 February 2018 -- Here is the new Sandhill building (not yet occupied):
UPDATE 18 June 2024 -- There is some kind of construction happening at the old Burlington. I suppose it's related to the county buying the mall, but I haven't heard anything specific about it:
Also added map icon, and updated post title from "Moving" to "Moved", and gave the mall street address instead of just "Columbia Mall".
Best Buy, 7006 Two Notch Road: 28 October 2017 15 comments
How have the mighty fallen..
This Dentsville Best Buy across from Columbia Mall used to be my go-to place for quick buys of computer and networking equipment when I had my previous job. It was also a good place for DVDs & CDs, back when those were a thing. Lately I have had much less need to test various networking configurations or throw together new linux & Windows installs, so my visits had become much more rare. I did feel that the merchandise was starting to rattle around in this huge building a bit as they kind of thinned out the inventory. I also felt it was becoming much more common to find unstocked gaps on the shelves where tags indicated your item *should* be, and for finding items which seemed to be completely untagged or priced..
Of course the root cause of all of those symptoms is the ongoing "creative destruction" of retailing as we have known it. It's simply the case now that I will only hit a Best Buy if I need something *today*; otherwise it's Amazon. That said, I'm still surprised they didn't stay open through the holiday shopping season.
Here's The State story announcing the closing.
UPDATE 22 March 2021 -- As mentioned in the comments, this place is being converted into a church:
(Also adding a map icon).
Verizon Wireless, 7007 Two Notch Road Suite A: Summer 2017 (moved) 12 comments
I noticed the other week that this almost-outparcel by Columbia Mall (and almost across from Best Buy) was vacant again. Verizon was a follow-on in this building to Coconuts Music, though I think it may have had several other businesses in between those two. Apparently this store has moved to Woodhill at 6118 Garners Ferry.
You can see the store with the Verizon signage still up . There is a dumptster outside now, so perhaps something else will be moving in soon.
Maleo's Dogs, Burgers & More, Columbia Mall: August 2017 7 comments
As commenter Sidney noted, the Food Court at Columbia Mall is getting rather sparse, though I suppose you could consider Auntie Ann's Pretzels right around the corner to be part of it, which would bring the count up a little bit.
To the best of my memory I have never eaten at any of the restaurants now in the Food Court proper. If I had had to guess just by the name, I would have expected Maleo's to be Italian, but unless there is pizza in the & More, I guess not.
I threw in the current Mall directory, and a few random shots just for "FUN".

Capitol Centre: August 2017 (Reflagged) 8 comments
I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but I noticed the other weekend that hard luck Dentsville shopping center Capitol Centre has been reflagged as The Meeting Place. I had been in that parking lot on 15 July 2017 to take some pictures of the rainbow over Columbia Mall, and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed had it already been changed then. (Though I admit to being oblivious about a lot of stuff I *should* have noticed).
The place is actually not all that empty with a number of small one-off businesses and a church, but it's definitely nowhere near full either.
I'm a little surprised that nobody has taken up Movies Behind The Mall for a bargain cinema on this side of town. I think the idea is sound: St. Andrews seems to do OK.
