Caprioska, 7001 Parklane Road: Late November 2013 2 comments
I noticed this evening as I was driving by Columbia Mall that there were no cars visible in the outparcel parking lot of Caprioska (the old O'Charleys / Sticky Fingers location). For a Friday evening, that seemed odd, so I turned in.
Taking a tour of the parking lot revealed that the place is open, but as Brickhouse, not Caprioska.
The Caprioska web site is as succinct as any I've ever seen, and their Twitter feed and Facebook page lead me to believe that they closed some time between 15 and 20 November 2013.
In the beginning, I think this place was to be sort of a Brazilian spot, but reviews indicate that changed over time.
Wendy's, 804 Assembly Street: 2 December 2013 (open again) 2 comments
As if all the street work in the area weren't enough, the USC Wendy's on Assembly Street next to the CVS is being partially torn down for renovation.
In these pix from 3 December, you can see that they have totally opened the building to the air, though the walls are still standing. Apparently they have a rush order on the worlk as the crew was still on the job despite it being night, and raining.
Commenter Andrew spotted the work, and commenter Terry found this explanatory story from WIS.

Update 28 March 2014 -- Here is The State story on the re-opening of this store (and the closing of the Beltline store).
UPDATE 30 April 2014 -- Here's the remodelled restaurant open again for business:
Sammi's Deli, 1629 Bluff Road: November 2013 2 comments
This little Sammi's on Bluff Road north of the Dollar General and acroos Simmons Street from Hay Hill Garden Market has been up for sale for a couple of months. For a while, they were still open even as they tried to get rid of the building, but sometime in the last few weeks, they have thrown in the towel.
UPDATE 13 July 2014 -- Here's some pix I dug up of the place in operation:
Miyo's, 922 Main Street: 11 November 2013 4 comments
The original home of the Miyo's empire, Miyo's On Main (in the old Dr. Feelgood's building) closed this month. The closing sign cites ongoing plumbing problems, but you have to think that was probably just the final straw.
I don't know that it is a direct replacement for this location, but Miyo's is building a new restaurant at the old Stean 'n Shake spot on Columbiana Drive. (Though as of yet they don't seem to have broken ground for that).
Roll Call Deli, 1202 Main Street: November 2013 5 comments
Commenter Michael asks if the Roll Call Deli on Main across from the Capitol in the old Fever location is closed.
The answer seems to be "yes for now", or at least that was the case as of last weekend.
The sign did not photograph well, but says Closed for maintenance, so hopefully they will be back soon.
UPDATE 17 January 2014 -- As commenter Bob notes, it is now obvious that this is a permanent closing, and I have taken the "temporary tag off the post title:
UPDATE 31 March 2014 -- For sale:

Bits & Pizzas / Universal Copies, 631 Main Street: October 2013 6 comments
After eating at Moe's last week, I noticed that Universal Copies in the little bi-level University Corner strip-mall, is closed and papered up.
Then, when I went to make this post, I looked back on the University Corner post and realized that I had missed the closing of the place before Universal: Bits & Pizzas.
Pizza Hut, Columbia Travel Center 7400 Wilson Boulevard: mid 2000s 2 comments
It's been a few years since I noticed this, but somehow I never got around to mentioning it: The Pizza Hut attached to the Columbia Travel Center plaza closed up shop a couple of years ago. As I recall, it was not a full Pizza Hut, but one of the "express" type operations.
I suspect it was a highly unpleasant job, but someone apparently climed the sign tower to elide the "Hut" portion of the Pizza Hut placard!
UPDATE 26 June 2023: Updating tags and adding map icon. Also, just noticed I apparently have this Pizza Hut listed twice, once on the Wilson Boulevard address, and once on the Plumbers Road address. Oh well.
Bakers Sports Pub & Grill, 7167 Two Notch Road: 18 October 2013 (open again) 20 comments
Wow!
When commenter badger mentioned that the Columbia Mall outparcel Bakers Sports Pub & Grill appeared to be closed, I thought I might run over there after work to take a look. I certainly did not expect what I found.
On the east side of the building, things looked almost normal, but I noticed as I walked over from my car to the front door that part of the entrance was boarded over. Then I just figured that this was not a business related closing, but that probably they had had a fire. Looking in through the door though, there were no burned sections, just a lot of devastation.
Then I got off the porch and noticed the crime scene tape around the front and west side of the building. Then, walking around (outside the tape boundry..) I saw this:
Once home, a bit of googling established that it was exactly what it looked like -- someone had driven a pickup truck into the west side of the building. And furthermore, it was part of a police chase that saw the truck drive through *another* building, run over one suspect and leave the other suspect (the driver) shot dead by police. It's a pretty incredible story, and in fact I had glanced through it last week without making the connection with Bakers.
The State has a dramatic picture of the pickup truck after it hit the wall.

Le Peep, 110 Forum Drive #7: October 2013 (open again) 30 comments
It hardly seems possible to me that Le Peep was at Sandhill for the five years that their closing letter claims, but looking back I see that in fact The Italian Pie closed in the fall of 2008.
I'm not a morning person by nature, and Le Peep closed at 2pm, so I never got a chance to check it out, but it seems to have been a well regarded breakfast spot. The door letter implies that the space remains under the same ownership and that something new may be forthcoming. In the meantime, the chain just opened a location on Gervais Street in the old Mezza space.
I have to say posting a listing of all the other Sandhill restaurants is a classy touch.

UPDATE 24 January 2014 This story from The State makes it clear that this Le Peep was moved to the Vista, rather than the Vista operation being a new one, so I have updated the post title to add "(moved)":
UPDATE 19 Aug 2014 -- This location is up and running again. Not sure what the story is, but good!
Catch 22, 1085-D Lake Murray Boulevard: September 2013 12 comments
Here's another of the many restaurants I was completely unaware of. This Irmo spot offered more than the seafood the name would have you expect. Of course, some other reviews make it sound as though the literary meaning of the name may have been appropos from time to time as well.
The space is now open again as Bistro On The Boulevard.
