Food Lion Store #1195, 2110 Clemson Road: Late 2009 13 comments
This Food Lion at the corner of Clemson and Hard Scrabble Roads ("The Crossings") has been closed at least since 14 Jan 2010 when commenter Jason noted it, so I'm guessing it probably moved late in 2009. According to commenter Elizabeth, it moved to a location on Hard Scrabble Road. I didn't go looking for that since driving out there today confirmed to me (once again!) how painful it is to move around in the Clemson and Hard Scrabble areas.
Surprisingly given all the store closings they have done in Columbia, the Blockbuster video rental store is still open in this hard to get to location. I don't wish them any ill, but I went ahead and took some pictures of the store that I suspect I'll need at some point.
UPDATE 8 March 2019 -- This whole plaza is being redone:

Ted, I'm afraid that getting a few pics of Blockbuster wasn't a bad decision as I noted that they filed for bankruptcy and that could definitely mean that this (and any of the other area locations) could be on the chopping block. I haven't heard anything for sure but if I do, I will enlighten the community of this blog with what I hear.
I have an affection for that side of town but Hard Scrabble Road definitely needs to be widened BADLY...there are occasions that Hardscrabble is so congested that it has hit me how scary it is.
Should you ever want to find the new location for the Food Lion that was here, take a left onto Hard Scrabble, proceed for a few miles until you reach Rice Creek Elementary School. Once past that, you'll see the intersection of Hard Scrabble Road and Summit Parkway and that's where this place can be found...

I started going to the new Food Lion on Hard Scrabble even though I initially wasn't (I was annoyed they messed up the Summit Parkway). They don't have a huge selection of goods compared to Krogers and such. Also, I've bought two packs of hamburger meat only to come home and immediately discover that the inside of the meat is brown while the outside is red. I think they repackaged old meat, because I don't know how else this could've happened. I had bought meat several times prior to that from here and the meat had been fine. Hopefully, it won't happen again.

For what it's worth - they (Food Lion) did the opposite out in Irmo where I live. They renovated a location extremely similar in nature to this one on Broad River and Kennerly Road even after they had opened one up a few miles up Broad River Road off of I-26. However, they did close the one in St. Andrews near the Kmart.
Even with the design of the new store across from Ridge View High School - FL still can't shake the issues like what Sara Beth had. I went in there the other day to look for something and wasn't really impressed with the layout of the store or the staff.
It is surprising though how that Blockbuster is still open when the major anchor like the FL moved out. Again, the opposite of what happened in Irmo.

well folks, Blockbuster #45070 in the Crossing (2110 Clemson Road) has signage for a moving sale but I couldn't find signs of a new location. I contacted Blockbuster corporate and they didn't have specific info in this regard, either. Be that as it may, I was assured that the retail stores remaining are a part of their multi-channel strategy.
Whatever the case, I am going to have to recommend that Ted gets the pics ready that he mentioned in the main post

folks, Blockbuster #45070, which is a short walk from this Food Lion, is now officially closed. I plan on getting a daylight pic later this week and then share it in conjunction with some pre-closing pics for a post on it (like I did with the Sandy Ridge Square closing last year)

I honestly don't know how any business stays open in that shopping center, as difficult as it is to get in and out of it at nearly any time of day. A year or two ago, divider strips were placed in the middle of Hard Scrabble so you can't turn out of the parking lot directly onto that road anymore - you have to come out onto Clemson and make a left from there, except much of the time the line to turn onto Clemson stretches farther back than either of the exits from the shopping center.
There's a relatively new Redbox at Walgreens half a mile up Hard Scrabble from there, so that Blockbuster's days have to be numbered. Heck, there's a Blockbuster rental kiosk at the Publix just up the street, too.
