Beer & Tobacco Outlet, 901 Meeting Street: 2024 3 comments
I believe this building at the southwest corner of Meeting & 9th streets has been a number of things over the years.
I'm pretty sure I recall an RV supply shop, but the last place there seems to have been a convenience store catering to smokers, drinkers and students of the games of chance.
The work permit expired in 2024, so I don't expect much to change here in the near future, and if there is a Pelican's on the lot as you might think from the sign, I did not see it.

I believe the Pelican's sits behind it, in a house. It's very confusing. I used to visit this place a good bit, going back as far as at least 2012. The owner was very friendly. I heard that he had some health issues, I think cancer, that wiped him out really fast.

In the recent past yes, it was a convenience type store (related to the Beer & Tobacco Outlet further down hwy 1 near the Chik fil a) but the owner passed from cancer fairly quickly.
Rumors have it that it's going to be a vape shop, and there is some work very sporadically and slowly being done. I see a van out front sometimes that reads Taj Golden Spices, but a web search for it yields little beyond a COMING SOON splash page and this https://www.bizapedia.com/sc/taj-golden-spices-llc.html
The Pelican's closed last year as well, it was a very hidden location and not super walkable from the neighborhood since only a little bit of 9th Street has sidewalks.

If this is the same place, up until maybe the 1970s it was "Henry Mobile Home Sales," owned by Lt. Col. Willis Wendell Henry (1908-1997).
