Shell Station, 3967 West Palmetto Street (Florence): 2007 1 comment
The earliest Google Steetview I can find for this lot is from November of 2007, and shows the station still standing here, though apparently already closed. The next view from January of 2008 already shows the building the the process of being torn down.
LoopNet says it is a 1.1 acre site, and has been sold, so presumably a new convenience store/gas station will go up here as it is on an I-95 exit (Exit 157).
Dougal's Thrift and Consignment, 7971 North Woodrow Street Suite 4: 23 November 2019 no comments
Dougal's was the follow-on operation in the storefront to Fins Aquatic Livestock & Supplies. I don't get out this way often, so I can't say much about it, although it's always nice to find a notary outside the national stores where it always turns out "We don't do those". The specific closing date was given by the owner in a google review post.
It looks like I have previously tagged shops in this plaza as "Woodrow Street", so I need to change all of those to "North Woodrow Street" at some point.
Dave's Place, 811 US 1 (Lugoff): 30 September 2021 1 comment
When I was growing up, we used to drive through Lugoff probably more than a half dozen times a year, visiting relatives in Hartsville. After I-20 came through, I went that way much less frequently, though sometimes I would drive the US routes to Fayetteville when I lived there, and the Interstates were still double-nickle. During the last ten or more years though I have probably only been there once or twice, and the only place I ever really remember is the building with the car on the roof.
Which is to say I had not heard of Dave's until it came up in the comments, but a nice sunny afternoon seemed like a good time to make the drive. It looks like it was a relaxed sports-bar right on the main drag. I met a resident while I was there, who has, I think has found a good home.

Firehouse Subs, 10136 Two Notch Road Suite B: August 2021 3 comments
I did not get around to getting pictures of this Sparkleberry Square Firehouse Subs location (sometimes known as Firehouse Subs Spring Valley) until all the signage was down and the building was fenced off. It seems likely to me that it is to be torn down though there are no signs up for whatever is to come.

UPDATE 22 February 2022 -- Well the Kroger gas station is up and running. That was pretty quick!
Red Lion Inn & Suites, 1539 Horseshoe Drive: Late 2020 1 comment
I last posted about this place in 2008 when it had closed as Travelodge Suites. After that Benedict College had a plan to use it for overflow dorm space but that fell through because of regulatory issues. I had the impression they had actually bought it by that point though I may be wrong.
At any rate, at some point thereafter it opened as Red Lion Inn & Suites, apparently in the 2015 timeframe, though I was unaware of it. The place got pretty mixed reviews on the hotel sites, some of them unsurprising in a building that dates from the 1960s. The last proof I can find of the place being open is a Memorial Day 2020 post on their Facebook page, though a vistor post from the Chamber of Commerce suggests it could have been open into November of 2020.
BB&T, 291 Harbison Boulevard: Late 2020 4 comments
This BB&T is on an outparcel of the Total Wine & More shopping center at the intersection of Harbison and Columbiana. I'm not exactly sure when they closed, but the last google review is from November of 2020, so I'm going with "Late 2020" until I hear differently. Although I do not have a BB&T account, I do have their Visa for the tenuous historical reason that a bank chain they once bought had a branch near my apartment in Fayetteville. It's always been well handled, and I don't think I've ever had the occasion to step into one of their branches. I certainly hadn't been to this one.
I believe this brings the number of fairly recent Harbison area bank closings to three, with this one, Region's Bank, and Wells Fargo.

Atlantic Bedding & Furniture, 7515 Two Notch Road: September 2021 1 comment
Atlantic is the follow-on operation in this Two Notch storefront to Haverty's. That store closed in early 2018, and according to photos on Google maps, Atlantic opened there in December of the same year.
I have to say, after going into the lot for pictures, that the location is not very easy to get in and out of, especially if you are going East and the lot seems a bit small. Whether any of that is a factor, I don't know.
Given the dates listed on the (plentiful) roadside signs, it appears they want to wrap things up by the end of the month.

UPDATE 13 March 2022 -- As mentioned in the comments, this building has been razed:
Midlands Mazda Showroom, 655 Broad River Road: September 2021 1 comment
Commenter Gypsie mentioned that this place was being razed. As far as I can tell, it is just the showroom, shown in the main pictures here, and the rest of the dealership remains in business (although at some point the name changed to Mazda Of Columbia. I'm not sure what the issue with the showroom was. I never paid it too much attention driving by, but it looks to have been an attractive building.
Vista Nutrition, 504 Gervais Street: September 2021 1 comment
I somehow managed to get pictures of all sides of this building during a May walk-through of the Vista -- all sides *except* for the actual front view of the Vista Nutrition storefront. I'll try to fill that in later. Anyway, Vista Nutrition opened in January of 2021 to serve a variety of healthy shakes, teas & smoothies.
ColaDaily has two stories, one on the store's opening, and another on the closing.
