American Car Center, 6409 Two Notch Road: February 2023 4 comments
This WLTX article (which is actually mostly about another used car dealer closing) mentions in passing that American Car Center closed in February. The story also calls it a subprime auto dealership, a term I am unfamiliar with, but which doesn't sound like something you would care to be called.
The property is fairly attractive. It's elevated with a nice view, and the buildings still seem to be in good shape. Assuming the economy picks up some, I expect another dealer will move in soon.

I don't know if it was originally Nix's VW but from at least the mid-90's until they moved to Killian Road this was McDaniels Acura (larger building) and Audi of Columbia.

Nix VW was originally located on Beltline near the old Dairy Queen building back in the late 60's to early 70's. After that, not sure when it moved to Broad River Rd. The building sat sort of on the hill going up Broad River Rd. going towards the old "Dee's School of Dance" building. The newer Central Chevrolet dealership was near the original location of Nix VW also after they had moved from Bull St/Gervais next to where the original S&S sat.

"Subprime" mends they lend money to peeps with bad credit at high rates to purchase the cars. Big gamble, and it usually doesn't end well for those in the auto funding industry that try to take advantage of this population.
