Atlantic Bedding & Furniture, 6420 Garners Ferry Road: February 2017 5 comments
I'm not sure when Atlantic Bedding & Furniture opened in Cedar Terrace, but it must have been after October 2009, as you can see its slot vacant in the closing for the Cedar Terrace Fred's.
It seems to be a well organized liquidation -- I even got a flyer in the mail.
With this closing, the big back building, which looks to be a former grocery to me, will be completely vacant, at least for the nonce.
UPDATE 16 August 2017 -- Actually though I list the closing date as February 2017 in the post title, this closing sale lasted quite a bit longer than I expected, and was well advertised all over town. It appears that the doors have now definitely closed:
UPDATE 27 September 2021: Updating tags and adding map icon.
Havertys Furniture, 1430 Colonial Life Boulevard: Fall 2016 (moved) 2 comments
Furniture stores are generally kind of invisible to be, so I'm not sure exactly how long Havertys has been across from Dutch Square, but cerainly for decades. Now, like everything else, it is moving to Harbison.

UPDATE 21 March 2018 -- The Harbision location is now open:
The Lowcountry Mermaid, 5015 N Highway 17 (Awendaw): May 2012 2 comments
I wondered at this little place when I drove by in early 2012. Apparently it was part of replacing three different former operations on the same property
The Kickin’ Horse stayed empty for a number of years. I always hoped that something fun would pop up there… and now it has. Where the Tackleshop was, there is now The Lowcountry Mermaid (which carries new and used furniture, home accessories, etc.). The small restaurant has been taken over by the Funky Little Kitchen (great burgers!) and I just recently heard that the stages out behind the place have been taken over by Awendaw Sound
The location, on US-17 between Georgetown & Charleston is rather rural, and I wasn't sure that anything as quirky as the shop looked to be could make it there. It appears, unfortunately, that I was right as according to their Facebook page, they closed down sometime soon after 25 April 2012.
Wicker-Mart, 6813 Two Notch Road, April 2016 no comments
Wicker is a general classification of woven furniture and accents, not a specific material. The term is used broadly for any item woven from natural or synthetic hard fibers such as rattan, cane, bamboo, seagrass, even synthetic vinyls and resins.
I just always figured wicker meant woven with those pencil sized plants.
At any rate, this longtime Two Notch stalwart will be closing soon.
The real estate listing has an interesting aerial picture of the vicinity, although I don't know that I would emphasize the proximity to the airport for a Dentsville property..
UPDATE 13 September 2017 -- This is now open as CK Beauty Supply. It appears to me they might have just left the "CK" in place from "WICKER". If so, clever!
The Shopping Bin, 1601-B Broad River Road: Early 2015 no comments
The postings on the Facebook page for this Boozer Shopping Center consignment shop suggest it closed in early 2015.
This particular storefront was previously the Boozer location of Dem's House of Diamonds, now on Lake Murray Boulevard.
Chapin Furniture, 1150 Chapin Road: April 2015 2 comments
Like everyone, I've heard the folksy commercials on 92.1 and other stations, but had no real idea where Chapin Furniture actually was. In the event it's not hard to find as a pretty straight shot from I-26.
The State has the story of this move: Apparently Publix has bought this lot, and Chapin Furniture is building a new two-story store elsewhere which should be open in the fall of 2015.
Good As New Consignments, 4884 Sunset Boulevard: July 2014 (consolidated) 4 comments
Commenter James notes that the larger part of this Sunset Boulevard building is now for lease.
It appears that this is the result of Good As New Consignments vacating the left suite of the building and consolidating with Good As New Furniture in the right suite.

UPDATE 15 May 2017 -- As reported in the comments, the main portion of this building is now a distillery:

Aaron's Furniture Rental, 159 US-378: January 2014 4 comments
This Aaron's on US-387 in Lexington just west of the US-1/US-378 split listed in the phonebook as Aaron's Furniture Rental, though clearly judging from the wall blazons, they also did appliances. Given that the South Lake Drive operation already existed, I think this is more a consolidation than a relocation. Basically they have just folded this branch's operations into that one's.

Discount Furniture, 1130 Broad River Road: late 2012 1 comment
I'm not exactly sure when this furniture store at the corner of Broad River Road & Means Avenue closed, but I can tell you that it opened on 16 March 2012.
Unless you're buying a house, new furniture is pretty much a post-ponable expense, and houses aren't exactly selling like hotcakes now either -- I think the furniture business has got to be hurting.
