Columbia Closings   What's not in Columbia anymore

This is the fifth closing I have done for this building, and there would have been six except I totally missed doing one for Levi's Lake House.

I don't know what it is about the spot -- It seems like a good location, and a good building, but nothing seems to stick. This may be the Lexington County 2360 Decker.

I don't know what's going on with the Boozer Shopping Center location of Chick-fil-A, but the place is currently closed, though it is flagged as temporary.

UPDATE 21 October 2025 -- This surprises me given how recently the Boozer location was renovated (January of 2021), but this Chick-Fil-A will be moving to the Dutch Square parking lot, in front of Mrs. B's. I understand they have done a lot of lane build-outs since the pandemic, but I would have thought that would have been part of the Boozer remodel. Anyway, not sure when it's happening, but the new building is coming along.

UPDATE 4 February 2026 -- Well, the new store is open, and this store is now closed for good:

I was shooting against the light, and didn't really have time to get out, so these aren't great shots, but the Wild Wing Cafe in Columbiana Station on Bower Parkway is closed due (mostly) to the COVID-19 crisis.

I say "mostly", because looking at the Yelp reviews, this place was pretty clearly on its last legs, and you have to feel kind of sorry for the corporate rep who had to comment on the 1-star reviews with apologies. Curiously, the Copper River Grill in the same shopping center (and which will soon feature here) had similiar reviews, and the spot there which was most recently (I think!) HuHot Mongolian Grill has been a revolving door for years. For some reason, restaurants don't seem to do well here..

UPDATE 23 August 2022: Updating tags.

I was actually in this Bojangles earlier this year when I had a hankering for a sausage biscuit, and I was perfectly happy with it. The restaurant is in a decent spot with plenty of drive-by traffic on Two Notch, so I'm not sure what the story here was.

At some point, I hope to get a shot of the whole building in brighter light, but for now this will have to do.

Well, I took my eyes off the old Popeye's location, and missed two closings.

South Carolina Dream Wings was the follow on to Jade Palace which closed in early 2018. South Carolina Dream Wings opened shortly thereafter, and I'm not sure when they closed.

After that, and without ever getting around to changing all the signs, Uncle Ozzy's opened. It was, in a complete change for this spot, a schnitzel operation. The Free Times highlighted it as a Bite Of the Week location, proving once again Yogi Berra's observation that It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future:

The location has had a long and varied history, but Ozzy gives you a good feeling that this could be a place that sticks around for a really long time.

[Update: Uncle Ozzy's closed suddenly after Free Times sampled its Hunterschnitzel on Sept. 12.]

Looking at Uncle Ozzy's Facebook page, it appears that the owners had a falling out.

UPDATE 12 May 2020 Fix the address. There seems to be some confusion, but I think it's 3315 Farrow Road. Certainly what I had (3115 Farrow) was wrong. Also, hope springs eternal. This place is now Noisy Wings:

Golden Chick was the follow-on to Wendy's in this (extensively remodeled) spot.

When I did a closing for the Manning location of Golden Chick, I wondered if the Columbia location might be next, as they opened about the same time. Interestingly however, google does not pull up any stories about closings or the chain being in trouble. To the contrary, there are several stories to the effect that 2019 is looking to be a banner year for Golden Chick, so perhaps this chicken is only crossing the road locally.

Commenter Beth noted a while back that this Chick-fil-A location was being torn down and rebuilt with double drive-through lanes.

The last time I looked at it, it was still open, though with some lot construction going on. Now they have definitely gotten into the rebuild phase.

I noticed on one of my recent drives to the beach that the Golden Chick in Manning had closed. It appears to be very recent, and there is no closed sign posted, though some attempt to cover the logo has been made. If you look at the roadside marquee, you can see Sign #1 in play, which was apparently the only warning given.

Looking at Yelp it appears this store opened in 2014, which I believe is about the time the one on Beltline did. The reviews are mostly good, I'm not sure what happened, unless it was just a bit too far from I-95 to get the traffic it needed.

Well, one less now..

Here's another Church's Chicken gone. This one is recent enough that almost the only sign that the place is closed is the fact that its not open: All the signage, drive through menus and fixtures are still in place.

That's a pretty good looking piece of pie.
