Southern Essence Distilling, 904 Frink Street: 2020s 1 comment
As I was driving up from Henry's the other week, I passed this building, which has featured here before as Mote's Store, Frink Street Tavern & Frink Street Pub, and noticed that it looked to have been set up as a distillery, and to now be vacant.
A little googling established that it was Southern Essence Distilling, established in 2018 & operating alongside an art studio, and that during the pandemic, they stepped up with a hand sanitizer production and donation operation. You can read about that here on WLTX. I'm unclear if they were able to re-open for normal business after the pandemic, and I don't see any articles on that, or on the place closing.
One notable feature of the place (now gone) was apparently a large wire sculpture of a Star Wars Imperial Walker. You can see a picture of that here and watch a story about it here.
Here is an archived copy of their web page.
Henry's Restaurant & Bar, 2108 State Street: January 2024 2 comments
Henry's (part of a local chain) sat at the corner of State & Frink streets in Cayce, in the building which hosted a number of former restaurants, including B & B Corner Bar & Grill and 2108 Bar & Grill.
According to stories in The State & Coladaily & on WLTX, the state's liquor liability insurance regulations were a big factor in the closure. However commenter Tom points to this WIS article which may point to specific reasons their insurance might be in question.

Which Wich?, 928 Main Street: Late 2023 1 comment
Which Wich was in this Main Street storefront which was the last location for The Basil Pot.
I never went to this location, but my experiences in two other locations for the chain were subpar. The fact that my order was wrong is a one-time thing, but not having fresh-brewed ice tea is a deal killer. Anyway, the place is now setting up to be a Substation II, which is also not one of my favorites.
The street is currently torn up all the way from the Capitol to Blossom street because apparently it was to easy to drive on and had too many parking spaces, so they are fixing that.

Murphy USA, 1330 Bush River Road: January 2024 (Limited Service?) no comments
I'm not sure what's going on with the Murphy Express in front of the old Walmart on Bush River Road, but I noticed for two weeks running that there wasn't a gas price posted on the big roadside sign, so I drove back in there and found the station partly dug up and only selling premium gas. I didn't get any good pictures because the attendant came out and was giving me the stink-eye, though people driving around the place looking for a pump with regular could hardly be unusual...
If they are having tank problems, I don't know why they wouldn't put regular in the premium tank and continue on that way until the issue was fixed, but it struck me as very odd.
UPDATE 24 May 2024 -- Whatever issue they were having, it is resolved. They have posted the price for "Regular" again, and in fact since it was the best I saw all day, I stopped and filled up:
Panera Bread, 1007 Bower Parkway: January 2024 (Moving) 13 comments
The Harbison Panera Bread has closed in advance of its move to the 2nd & Charles plaza. The new location notably has a drive-through which the Bower Parkway one did not.
Here is (an oldish) State story on the move.
My experience is that this location, along with Garners Ferry & Percival has not been stellar. I find Killian to be the best run of the local stores.

Tripp's Fine Cleaners, 2750 North Lake Drive: 2023 2 comments
I noticed another closed Tripp's location the other day, this one in a nice end-cap at Murray Landing. Streetview says it was open as recently as September of 2022, so I'm going with 2023 for the closing date.

NTB Tire & Service Centers, 7422 Garners Ferry Road: Late 2023 1 comment
I don't believe I've ever been to a National Tire & Battery, though I see they spun off from Sears in 2003, so I guess you could say I did business with them in a roundabout way through that Diehard connection.
As far as I can tell from the Google reviews, this location closed around three months ago, so I'm calling it late 2003. It seems like a pretty decent location, so I would not be surprised to see another repair operation set up shop here.

I Heart Mac & Cheese, 1033 Roberts Branch Parkway Suite 202: November 2023 no comments
I ate at I Heart Mac & Cheese off of Killian twice. The first time was with my niece, and she said the signature item: Mac & Cheese was good. I had a grilled cheese sandwich, which was also good, though I would have preferred bacon strips to bacon bits. Both my sister & I thought the service was a bit slow & disorganized for the small number of people dining.
I went back later on my own several months afterwards, and I found that the service this time was *incredibly* slow and disorganized. I was the only customer, and it still took me 40 minutes to get my sandwich. Also, as I recall there was no drink station, so I had to beg for refills in the interim. Anyway, at that point I took it off my list, decent sandwich or no.
For some reason I cannot get to The State's web page now, but google idicates that here is the story of this place opening, and here is a story on the closing.
