I wish I would have gone to Al's. It seems like the kind of place I would like, but I also had the impression that it was a white-tablecloth place where you probably needed a reservation, and I never exercised that amount of pre-planning.

In december the owner, the titular "Al" Loftis announced his retirement, and the closing of the restaurant after 44 years. That's a very good run!

You can read about it on WIS, and in The State's year-end list.

So far, it looks like the building is pretty much untouched, and there's no indication of anything new coming.
