Grandma's, 724 Harden Street: October 2012 3 comments
Grandma's replaced China Garden in the old Kesters Bamboo House building back in late 2009, when the first two pictures above were taken.
In the event, it seems to have lasted about three years (and to never have gotten a finished sign as seen in the third picture taken around July 2012).
The next, and current, iteration is Kildare's Irish Pub.

Mr. B's, 3126 Two Notch Road: 2012 4 comments
As far as I know, this Mr. B's, a nightclub on Two Notch between Club Fantasy Island and New York Subs & Wings, has no connection with Mr. B's Railroad Tavern -- "Mr. B's" just seems to be a more common establishment name than you might think.
I am pretty sure that I saw the nightclub open earlier this year, so "2012" will have to do as a closing date, especially as they don't seem to have had a phonebook listing.
I originally thought they had the whole building to the left of the sub shop, but a little further googling leads me to find that the left part, 3132 Two Notch has its own history, so I will do a closing on that later.
UPDATE 10 October 2016 -- This lot has now been sold:
Doctors Care, 110 Atrium Way: 2009 (moved) 6 comments
As I was taking pictures of the Burger King next door, I noticed that this Doctors Care center on Atrium Way & Two Notch was gone.
Looking in the phonebooks, it appears that it probably closed in 2009, which surprises me because I was sure I had been there more recently than that.
In fact, I went here several times over the years, most recently when I stepped on a nail in the nearby Home Depot parking lot. While, of course, it's never pleasant to go to a doctor's office, they generally seemed to get me in and out fairly quickly, and with my problem resolved or prescribed.
UPDATE 26 October 2012: As mentioned in the comments, this Doctors Care is now at 10040 Two Notch.
UPDATE 14 November 2012 -- Here are some pictures of the new location:
UPDATE 20 July 2016 -- The Atrium Way building is now Wellspring Family Medecine:
Burger King, 8501 Two Notch Road: October 2012 (open again) 18 comments
Like the Burger King at North Main & Sunset, this Two Notch Road King (next to the Post Office) is remodeling, and is closed while that takes place.
The influx of new burger chains to Columbia seems to have sparked a good deal of revamping at McDonald's and Burger King.

UPDATE 5 December 2012 -- Open again!
Emergency Liquidation Center, 252 Harbison Boulevard: October 2012 no comments
Well, that didn't last too long. On the other hand, I suppose it wasn't intended to since similar exhibitions zip in and out of Jamil Temple fairly often. (Not to mention temporary stores like Giant Book Sale in other unused Harbison storefronts).
Anyway, this liquidation center went into the old Office Depot location across from the Harbison Barnes & Noble a month or so ago, and offered bargins on fashion and electronics. I've gotten some good deals on computer equipment at the Jamil sales, but the trick is to remember that you only go if you actually think you'll buy something, as there is a $5.00 fee just to walk in the door. In this instance, there was nothing much I needed, so I never did.
I see from a sign that the building is still available for short-term leases, so perhaps the lidiquation company (apparently out of Ohio) will lease it again sometime.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 1436 Taylor Street: late September 2012 (moved) 8 comments
Enterprise is not one of the car rental firms I've ever used, though their promise to deliver the car to you rather than have you come for the car is appealing. In the event, the one time I needed such a service (stuck in Beaufort with a busted alternator) the local branch was closed on Sunday and I just ended up staying until my car was fixed. Of course I never get a rental car that's a model I would drive by choice, so it was probably just as well.
The phonebook and google say that there are still several other Enterprise locations in town.

UPDATE 19 October 2012 -- As commenter Matt notes in the comments this location has moved to 1307 Assembly Street a few blocks away.
UPDATE 14 November 2012 -- Here is the new Assembly Street location:
UPDATE 5 May 2018 -- At some point the 1436 Taylor Street building was razed:
U-Haul / Carolina Auto Wash & Detailing / Outing Construction Co, Inc. / Tri Buck Mechanical / Branham & Buck Heating and Air / Branham Plumbing, 7430 Fairfield Road: 2010s no comments
Here's a rather overgrown building on Fairfield Road to the north of I-20 that apparently has been a number of things over the years, but most recently housed three related service businesses.
UPDATE 27 September 2023: Update tags & add map icon.
Carolina Title Loans, 2116 Broad River Road Suite A: Summer 2012 (Moved) 1 comment
As I mentioned a week or so ago in an update to the Intersection Center Pizza Hut post, that building at 1929 Broad River Road has been taken over by Carolina Title Loans (last picture above). This is the building they moved from.
It was obviously a gas station at one time, though I don't remember of what brand, and sits at the corner of Broad River Road and Garner Lane (which is also the Eastbound on-ramp for I-20). I would say the Pizza Hut location definitely has easier access than this lot, which is difficult to get to if you are heading towards Dutch Square on Broad River Road.
UPDATE 25 March 2022 -- This place has now been razed:
(Hat tip to commenter Gypsie for the notice that this place has been razed).

Dairy Queen / Phines Beauty Salon / Fresh 2 Def / My Pleasure Hair Studio / Carolina Trucking & Demolition Services / Carolina Camera Repair Service Inc. / 93 Octane LLC, 5102 Fairfield Road / 5104 Fairfield Road: 1970s etc 1 comment
I was driving down Fairfield Road when this building next to the Food Lion caught my eye. It looked very much like a number of the old-school Dairy Queen buildings in town.
Sure enough the ad (reposted above) lists a Fairfield Road location. The only slight difficulty is that it gives the address as 5104 Fairfield Road while the current address (written in quite large letters) for the building is 5102 Fairfield Road. I pretty sure there has been a minor renumbering at some point over the last 40 years.
Googling for the new address turns up a large number of tenants at the building since it was a DQ. The only one I might have ever heard of is the camera repair operation, and if so it was so long ago that I can't be sure.
UPDATE 10 February 2025 -- Now purple:

Parklane Seafood, 925 Leesburg Road: 2012 (catering only) 10 comments
I'd never been entirely sure if Parklane Seafood on Leesburg Road were open or closed, but judging from the fact my most recent trip through the area showed the building up for sale, and some recent comments here, I think it is now clear that the restaurant side of the business is closed while the catering side continues.
This building was the old Flamingo Club. It also appears that the back lot has recently been converted into a garden center.
Update 23 April 2018 -- As commenter Rick notes, this building has been stripped of the canopy and door facade that probably dated back to Dick's Flamingo Club:
It looks like the building is prepped to rent as some sort of three suite office.
UPDATE 5 October 2021 -- Now Performance Medical Supply, Inc.:
