Columbia Closings   What's not in Columbia anymore

I did not know this:

I just always figured wicker meant woven with those pencil sized plants.

At any rate, this longtime Two Notch stalwart will be closing soon.

The real estate listing has an interesting aerial picture of the vicinity, although I don't know that I would emphasize the proximity to the airport for a Dentsville property..

UPDATE 13 September 2017 -- This is now open as CK Beauty Supply. It appears to me they might have just left the "CK" in place from "WICKER". If so, clever!

I noticed the other week that this fabric and sewing supply store in what is more or less a Columbia Mall outparcel is closing. I have not been in a fabric store in decades, but I remember very well that when my mother used to take us shopping and we went into one, they air would be so heavy with dye fumes from all the bolts of cloth that our eyes would start to water almost immediately.

The chain website says that there is a nother Columbia store in Harbison.

This little Hispanic grocery or convienence store was in this little Rosewood plaza for a number of years adjacent to Killoy. It appears the interior is now being completely gutted for whatever comes next.

This small urban clothing botique is in the storefront that was the final location for Forest Lake TV. It's listed in the February 2015-2016 phonebook(*), and I think I would have noticed it being vacant for many months as I drive by there several times a week, so I'm going to peg the closing as "late 2015".

(*) For some reason I still have not received a February 2016-2017 phonebook..

As is often the case, I'm not clear exactly when Five Rivers Market, in the former Master Cleaners/Provisions slot on Millwood closed. I don't see it in my phonebooks at all, and online evidence is a bit confusing, but points so some time after 21 May 2015. As far as I can tell, the Orangeburg location is still open. (Hmm, they also have (had?) a location at the State Farmers' Market).

The storefront is now slated to become Crave Artisan Specialty Market opening around 1 March 2016.

Divine Consign in the The Shops Of O'Neil Court is yet another casualty of the great 4 October Flood of 2015.

They opened in the old Capital City Consignments / Roundabouts Consignments slot sometime in 2012, and lasted until they were washed out.

From their Facebook page it does not appear they have relocated to anyplace else.

On my recent trip to Fernandina, I noticed that this convenience store on 8th Street (the main connector from off of the island to downtown) was closed. It's a store I've had my eye on for years as I really like the canted glass front. I believe the building has been there for my entire life (which does not make it old by Fernandina standards!), and it has to my eye a distinctive "50s" flair.

The front door sign says they are closed for remodeling: I hope this does not include razing the building and putting up something more current and less distinctive.

Not too long after noting the move of the Boozer location, I had occasion to mail something and dropped by the forest drive location of Nutrition Warehouse. Unfortunately, I found it closed and vacant. This is a shame, since while I never perused the vitamins and supplements the store offered, the contract Post Office was more convenient than the Trenholm Plaza USPS and generally had much faster service.

Great Ceasar's Ghost!, I was sure I had done a closing for comic store Heroes & Dragons when they moved from their Boozer Shopping Center location next to Manifest and down the hill to 501 Bush River Road, but apparently not as it's not in Alphabetical Closings and google has no record of it. Maybe I just remember taking some pictures of it. At any rate, that's what they did, and now they have come almost full circle, moving back to Boozer, albeit not to exactly the same spot (which is now Dollar General).

Where they are moving to is the old Nutrition Warehouse spot I mentioned a few days ago.

Family Dollar has left their original home at 1901 Rosewood Drive and has moved across the street to 1825 Rosewood Drive, which is the former KFC lot. You can see the new, custom built, building in the background of some of these shots.

I really should have crossed the street to get a better picture of this building. It has kind of a grocery store look to me, though that would put it awfully close to the old Piggly Wiggly
