Unlike the Dollar Tree fire(s) on Beltline, this one was pretty scary as it happened at 5:30 in the afternoon while the store was still open, and all the staff as well as customers were inside. In the event everyone made it out safely, thank goodness!

The fire sounds odd as it started in an asile and moved into the attic, but at least in the stories I have seen, the fire department has not found an actual cause for it.

You can read about it at The State or on WLTX.

As you can see, work has started on remediating the store.

  1. This building was originally a Piggly Wiggly. It is also one of the biggest Doller Generals I have ever been in.

  2. Yes, Dollar Tree not General, but probably the biggest I've ever been in too. When I was in college (late 90s) I had to shop at that Pig often. It was scary.

  3. I remember The Piggly Wiggly Tom mentioned well...I had a grandmother that lived in this area and set foot in this store a couple of times...it closed in August 2002 and by late 2003/early 2004 the Dollar Tree moved in and has been there since (I've been in this Dollar Tree several times over the years).

This Piggly Wiggly was similar to one that used to be at 3724 Covenant Road that I remember going in once as well...
