Jackie Hite's Bar-B-Q, 460 E Railroad Avenue (Leesville): 23 September 2018 4 comments
Longtime Leesville barbecue landmark, Jackie Hite's will be closing down on 23 September 2018.
According to The State's encomium for Jackie Hite on his passing in 2016, the roots of the restaurant go back to the 1950s, and
On Hite’s passing, High said it is not necessarily the end, but “it’s sad to lose the old hands that did it right, the old fashioned way ... whole hog over coals. There’s a big difference between whole hog and butts only.
“Jackie Hite was (one of) the last in all of South Carolina to barbecue a whole hog over wood. He would start the pig on Thursday and lay it out on Friday for a pig picking at the restaurant,” says High. “And when I would go out for barbecue on my own, I would always choose Friday night for Jackie Hite’s pig picking.”
Now, according to WLTX the family has elected to wind the buisness down on the anniversary of Mr. Hite's passing, but there's still time to get out there once more.

Holly's Famous Hot Dogs, 1955 Augusta Rd: Summer 2017 2 comments
Judging from their Facebook page, Holly's Famous Hot Dogs sadly had a death in the family last summer, and have not reopened.

UPDATE 15 February 2022 -- Now (Tameleria) Taqueria La Poblanita:
Maurice's Piggy Park, 9563 Two Notch: July 2018 7 comments
Somehow after all these years, I've never made it into a Piggie Park. Probably because I convinced myself at an early age that I didn't like barbecue (I've revised my opinion a bit), and didn't really realize they had other Southern items.
The State says the property is to become a car dealership. I would guess used cars.
The Clemson Road and Dentsville locations remain open.

UPDATE 22 September 2020: Updating tags, adding map icon.
Larry's Giant Subs, 2001 Augusta Highway: 18 May 2018 2 comments
I've never had a Larry's sub, and now I guess I won't, or at least not in Lexington. According to their Facebook page, their franchaise agreement had run its course and they opted not to renew for a 15 year term.

Rite Aid, 500 West Main Street (Lexington): 15 June 2018 3 comments
If you look closely, you can see the Walgreens directly across the street at 423 West Main Street that put paid to this Rite Aid location.
I'm not sure how the other locations are doing it, but it appears this one closed for two days (13 & 14 June) to get ready for a liquidation sale on 15 June. I'm marking that as the closing date, though I suppose it could last several days.
UPDATE 3 November 2020 -- This building was razed some time ago, and construction on a new Murphy's is now well advanced:
Also adding map icon.
UPDATE 6 March 2021 -- Now open as a Murphy's Express:
Crescent Moon, 2361 Augusta Highway: August 2017 5 comments
I was unaware of this Lexington establishment until commenter James R pointed out that it had closed. It's a ways out on the Western outskirts of Lexington where Pisgah Church Road hits US-1.
The State says they were there for four years, which really is not bad for a non-chain restaurant.

Sara's Produce, 9201 Two Notch Road: August 2017 (open again, seasonal) 1 comment
Sara's Produce was the follow-on operation in this spot to Wood Produce. It seems to have had a fairly short run, opening in May or June, and closing probably in August.
The main shed is now empty, but there is a new ice depot.
UPDATE 15 May 2018 -- Well it appears that commenter Carl is correct, and that this business is seasonal. They are now open again:
Rainy Day Pal Books, 711 East Main Street Suite H: 16 July 2017 1 comment
This old school used book store was on the upper level of the Old Mill on US-1 in Lexington. I stopped by back in May when I was having lunch at the brewpub. They had a nice selection of SF -- I even picked up some A. E. Van Vogt in French. Not that I could read them. At one time I probably had a grade-school understanding, but that's long gone. At any rate though, he always said he was more popular in France than the US because his translations were done by a French poet. They're certainly not exemplary prose in English, but that Van Vogt dream logic pulls you in..
The later pictures are from August.
There is a nice little farewell message on the shop's Facebook Page.

Reds On Augusta, 4350 Augusta Road: Late 2014 (moved) 4 comments
Noticed this vacant restaurant on Augusta Road next to the former Piggly Wiggly plaza.
A little googling turned up a LoopNet listing and an old FaceBook page that establish that it was a Sports/Biker bar called Reds On Augusta.
Judging from the fact that the last Facebook postings (other than an outlier which I'm guessing is a memory-lane post) are from late 2014, that's when I'm putting the closing.
See the LoopNet link for a picture of the place in operation.
UPDATE 11 August 2017: OK, commenter James R says they have not closed but moved to 3813 Augusta Highway. Well good for them! I'll add "(moved)" to the post title.
Allstar Pizza, 1965 Augusta Highway: Fall 2016 no comments
Not sure exactly when Allstar closed, but Columbiafoodienews says that Papa Gios was prepping this spot to open on 16 December 2016, so Allstar must have been closed for probably a month or more by then. I'm just going to say "Fall 2016".
I do love me some pizza, but I never made it to this spot. Lexington is a good drive, and if it were normal hours, and I were going that far, I would probably get some Parthenon style pizza at Pizzeria Opa or it it were later, Uno.
Interestingly, Papa Gios seems to have all its locations in Orlando and the Midlands, which is a fairly unusual distribution.
