Columbia's Greek Festival 2024, 1931 Sumter Street: 22 September 2024 no comments
I had meant to go by the Festival on Saturday when I would have had some time to walk around, but in the event forgot about it completely somehow, and ended up dropping by Sunday afternoon. By that time all the Galaktoboureko was gone, but I did snag some Baklava & Kataifi to take home. There looked to be a pretty good crowd, and the weather was great, in fact unusually warm for late September!
Deno's Fine Foods, 6161 Saint Andrews Road: 2020 23 comments
I have been holding off doing a post on Deno's because it wasn't clear exactly what their status is; however, at this point they are clearly closed for a long-term, if not forever, despite the fact that there is no real-estate sign, and all of the furnishings and equipment are still in the building.
Somehow I had it in my head that Deno's was a seafood restaurant, and so never went. Looking online now, I think I clearly would have liked the place. The last review I see on their Facebook page (which has not updated since 2014) is from February of 2020, so I think clearly COVID-19 was an issue here, and the roadside sign does mention that they were open for takeout for some time into the pandemic.

Charlie's Wings & Seafood, 2509 Forest Drive: February 2019 1 comment
Charlie's took over fairly seamlessly from Nick's, and has now in its turn yielded to King's Pizza, though the sign changeover is less than finished.
I'm not sure if this is the same King's Pizza which replaced Chickadees on Marshall Street, but it would be an odd coincidence if not.

Nick's Gyros & Seafood, 2509 Forest Drive: 2018 1 comment
This building was originally a Bojangles and was next and an Asian barbecue restaurant.
In 2016, Nick's Gyros & Seafood set up shop, and lasted until this year. Or at least I noticed driving by recently that it was now Charlie's Wing's & Seafood and I think I would have noticed that fairly shortly after it happened as I drive that way frequently.

Vacchio's Greek & Italian Bistro & Lounge, 1505 Charleston Highway Suite A5: June 2018 1 comment
I ate here twice for lunch, and both times got sort of a weird vibe and the impression the place wanted to be a night club more than a restaurant. The second time I was there, a girl came out of the kitchen and sat at a nearby table, crying. It was very uncomfortable, and I decided that was it for me.

Devine Foods, 2702 Devine Street: 15 November 2017 2 comments
Devine Foods was unfortunately a place I only got to once or twice. Spanakopita is my go-to Greek dish and as I recall, theirs was quite good. My problem was that they closed quite early both for lunch & dinner making it difficult to fit into my eccentric schedule.
Here is a story from The State on the closing, and an appreciation from The Free Times
UPDATE 8 May 2018 -- This place is being razed to the outer walls:
Main Street Cafe Bar & Grill, 131 East Main Street: Summer 2016 2 comments
I never stopped in this place, which was apparently a Lexington fixture, but I might well have liked it, as it apparently had Greek fare along with standard bar food.
Given the fact that they listed in last year's phonebook, but not this years, and that the last Yelp review is from 19 July 2016, I'm dating the closing as Summer 2016.

Kotas Your Way!, 5423-B Augusta Road (Lexington): Fall 2015 1 comment
This storefront, co-located with a convenience store, was orginally Kotas Sandwiches. After that closed, the place re-opened for a while as Kotas Your Way!.
It appears from the signage, and the food truck parked in the lot that the new owners have closed the storefront and now concentrate on catering chiken & pizza from two food trucks.
UPDATE 11 July 2016 -- Now PK-BBQ:
Feel Goods, 2632 Decker Boulevard: 6 October 2015 2 comments
Feel Goods, in the old Taco Bell and Nick's location on Decker, is an interesting case of a flood closing.
This building is raised a good bit above the old Captain's Kitchen location where Decker washed through during the 6 October 2015 flood, and I don't believe there was water in the building. However, it was nonetheless on a section of road that was closed for several weeks, and that loss of access and business was apparently enough to tip the scales, at least for now. Hopefully they will be back, but there is no signage indicating anything one way or the other.
UPDATE 9 February 2016 -- It's official now, the building is up for sale:
