Alleana's Southern Kitchen, 119 Sparkleberry Lane: 2023 7 comments
This building at the corner of Sparkleberry & Graces Way was built as a McAlister's Deli. After they moved down the road, it was a Famous Toastery, and Alleana's was the follow-on to that.
I don't have a definite date for the closing, but the Google reviews have dates like "A year ago", so I am going with 2023. I will note that a consistent feature of those reviews is a note that the place was not open when it was supposed to be. This is a subcase of Rule #1, and is never a good sign.
Currently a Mexican restaurant is setting up in the space.

I have said this before about these 2 buildings here at this spot. As Matt alluded to, location, location, location. Carrabba's was the only thing that lasted a long time. And I do believe if they were actually on Two Notch, they may have lasted longer. Unfortunately, nothing will last too long in these 2 buildings.
As to what Matthew mentioned. Mexican seems to be the trend now. It looks like they have changed or changing Whiskey Kitchen (inside Delta Hotels Marriott down on Two Notch Rd and LeGrand) to Dos Amigos, a Mexican restaurant. Then you have the 2 new Mexican restaurants, Masa and Barrio that opened up on Rosewood and Devine. Another (Vago) opened on Main St (South side). It's just a trend that will eventually fade out. Unfortunately, some of those will be on this page soon.

@Sidney - I think Mexican restaurants are popular because you can have a relatively cheap, "sit-down" dining experience without settling for fast food. Even if my husband and I don't intend to spend less money at a restaurant, we often order a couple of decent entrees and beers for an acceptable price.

@Robin-I once heard a chef give a scientific reason why Tex-Mex/ Southwestern/Mexican cuisine has grown in popularity. According to him, a person's taste buds grow less sensitive and duller as they age. Thus they seek out spicier, and sometimes "hotter" food to compensate, which is a feature of Southwestern cooking, thus attracting more fans as the baby boomers age.

There is signage up that a new restaurant is opening here. Everything regarding the new restaurant is a mystery.

I think that this place shows that there is a big difference in a restaurant that is located "on Two Notch Rd" and one that is "just off of Two Notch Rd". For some reason, people just don't want to go to these other places nearly as often as the places that are facing Two Notch. Maybe it is because it doesn't really connect to any shopping center without getting on Sparkleberry. Maybe it has to do with the attrocious traffic in that area, I don't know. I will be surprised if the next place lasts a year.
