Columbia Closings   What's not in Columbia anymore

This Sammi's location was way out on Broad River Road, just across Lykes Lane from the Publix plaza. I took these pictures when I originally thought it was closed, back in June of 2012.

As it turned out, they weren't closed, but just having some work done. They opened again and carried on (with an 'A') until last month.

Now it's Touchdown's Wings & Things.

Here's a two suite consignment shop in the little Irmo strip that has figured so often here over the past week or so. One more, and I think we're done..

Here's a former beauty salon in an old ranch-style on Broad River Road in Irmo. The new, unused, phonebooks on the porch are closing signs I've seen time and again, though probably in the next few years that will stop.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for anything mechanical, so I could toss out more of thes pictures, but I'm not going to.

This little automated carwash is on Broad River Road at Riverhill Circle, just across that street from China Hut Ace and just below the 'T' where Greystone Boulevard hits Broad River. I like the way that it seems a little bossy with its "Stop/Back Up/Drive Forward" warnings and the way it keeps up with the situation through observational pronouncements like: "Car Is Soaking".

I have got to say that their marquee mascot looks the least like a Chinese chef of any illustration I've seen. (Not that there's anything wrong with a European in a floppy hat dilligently applying himself and learning Chinese cooking..)

I noticed this little liquor shop in Irmo on Woodrow Street behind the Bi-Lo. It was raining a bit so I didn't get out and peer inside, but I believe that at this point they are still in close-out mode, though the space is already listed with a real-estate sign.

Here's another Boozer Shopping Center vacancy:

Brighter Solutions has moved to 1447 Franklin Street. Apparently they are home lighting decor providers with "Solatubs, Entry Point glass, &: Phantom screens".

Before that, the place was apparently an insurance agency and an immigration support operation.

Here's yet another closed payday checking type operation. This one is in the plaza at the corner of Broad River & Rushmore Roads, across the street from Rush's. The plaza opened with some fanfare years ago, including the unlikely peregrination of Bum's Bummers from Boardwalk Plaza to here. In fact, if you look at the next to last picture at that link, I believe it is this very unit being constructed.

In recent years, the place seems to have moved down a tier, and to have had a fair bit of turnover.
