Shoe Carnival, 142 Harbison Boulevard: September 2017 (moved) 6 comments
Well, this has already been extensively ventilated in Have Your Say, but Shoe Carnival has moved down the hill from Columbiana Station by Old Navy to Harbison Court.
The new location, seen below, is the former home of Regency Beauty Institute (on which I never did a closing) and right next to the previous (and recently departed) shoe store in that complex, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse.
Uncle Ned's Restaurant & Catering, 1212 Sunset Drive: Fall 2017 2 comments
Uncle Ned's soul food restaurant was the follow-up operation in this building to Dolo's and Varsity, D'Jasz &JS Renee. I'm not sure when it opened, but sometime after Mid-July 2016. My memory is that Varsity was there for many years, but since then, things have not stuck.

UPDATE 12 March 2018 -- As mentioned by commenter Justin, this space is about to re-open as S & A Seafood Market & Restaurant:
Apocalypse Comics 2, 285 Columbiana Drive: September 2017 3 comments
I believe I went into the Grand Strand location of Apocalypse Comics, which closed last year, a couple of times, but I never made it into this Harbison location. To be truthful, I get most of my comics nowdays from a subscription service which has pretty much curtailed my shop visits.
Here's a nice little write up about the shop in The Daily Gamecock.

Knotty Heads Body Piercing, 1221 Broad River Road: 2017 no comments
I noticed back in May 2017 when I did the Smart Choice closing that piercing salon Knotty Heads was closed for remodeling. I see that as of early October, it still is.
UPDATE 31 August 2018 -- Took the "temporary" off the post title. It now appears to be Sirius Sage and/or Dogon:
Gina's Pizza 2 Go, 6903 Saint Andrews Road: Summer 2017 3 comments
Gina's was the follow-on in this building to Little Caesar's & Custom Pizza. As far as I can tell from the Yelp reviews, they must have closed some time between June and late August of 2017. I never partook as I don't do take-out, and it's way away for me, but the reviews are pretty good.

SouthTrust / Regions Bank, 5490 Forest Drive: Summer 2017 4 comments
On my way to an appointment recently, I noticed that the Regions Bank branch in East Forest Plaza (the Wal-Mart shopping center at I-77) is now vacant. This is another sign of how banks are continuing to shed branches as more and more business is done over the Internet. I can see why this one was a candidate, as the place is rather hard to get in and out of. If you are not already going into the shopping center you might well think twice.
With the recent closure of the Sandhill branch, I believe this leaves Regions locally with only the main location on Gervais and a Harbision branch. Hmm, actually I don't see the Harbison location on their web site, so that may have closed too -- I'll have to take a look.
UPDATE 10 October 2017 -- Adding SouthTrust to the post title based on the comments. SouthTrust was acquired by Wachovia in 2004, so that would have been gone by 2005.
UPDATE 20 January 2021 -- This building has been torn down and something new is going up there now:
Also adding a map icon.
UPDATE 25 May 2021: The new building is now Time To Shine Car Wash:
Carolina Collegiate Federal Credit Union, 4480 Rosewood Drive / 710 Pulaski Street: 3 October 2017 (reflagged) 1 comment
This one's a puzzler. I've been a Carolina Collegiate FCU member for decades, since my father opened an account for me while he was a USC professor, and I have no complaints -- they're a good instution to do business with. What I don't understand is how they seem to have been bitten by the same bug that got into the RCPL a few years ago: The sudden urge to change a historic and evocative name to something less so.
If you're in Columbia, and especially if you have some connection to USC, the name Carolina Collegiate invokes warm fuzzies. Caro just sounds like syrup..
Finleaf Gallery, 2323 Devine Street: 9 September 2017 no comments
According to The State and ColaDaily, this Shandon gallery started out in this nice little house as a fine tea emporium in 2000, gradually adding other, art and botique, items. I was still living in Aiken in 2000 otherwise I might have heard and stopped in as I certainly like my tea. In the event, I missed out, but 17 years is certainly a very good run.
