Columbia Closings   What's not in Columbia anymore

I'm not sure if this place on Two Notch next to Tiffany's is closed yet, but it was in the final stretch when I took these pictures a few weeks ago. Apparently the owner is retiring. They opened on 4 April 2006, so that's a ten year run, not bad at all.

UPDATE 11 October 2018 -- I should mention, that for whatever reason, this place never did close. Perhaps the retiring owner changed his mind, or found a buyer for the place as a going concern:

This location of the floundering chain apparently closed on 6 March, along with the Conway store, leaving the North Myrtle Beach location as the only one in Horry County (I have not checked on the one Georgetown location).

This particular parcel is behind Walmart at the southeast corner of the intersection of US-17 Bypass and SC-544. The area is still growing, with an active Kohl's/Home Depot strip across from Walmart and a Target anchored strip on the northwest corner. This resturant itself apparently did a very good business, but the problems of the parent chain nonetheless dragged it down.

I did not know this:

I just always figured wicker meant woven with those pencil sized plants.

At any rate, this longtime Two Notch stalwart will be closing soon.

The real estate listing has an interesting aerial picture of the vicinity, although I don't know that I would emphasize the proximity to the airport for a Dentsville property..

UPDATE 13 September 2017 -- This is now open as CK Beauty Supply. It appears to me they might have just left the "CK" in place from "WICKER". If so, clever!

I noticed the other week that this fabric and sewing supply store in what is more or less a Columbia Mall outparcel is closing. I have not been in a fabric store in decades, but I remember very well that when my mother used to take us shopping and we went into one, they air would be so heavy with dye fumes from all the bolts of cloth that our eyes would start to water almost immediately.

The chain website says that there is a nother Columbia store in Harbison.

I was not aware of this little Island restaurant on Hardscrabble until commenter Sidney mentioned its passing. It looks like while the storefront has closed, you can still get catering.

This much restauranted building, the home of the original Lizard's Thicket, is vacant again.

I'm not sure exactly when this happened as even when I'm pretty sure it was still in operation, it never seemed be be open when I drove by. Interestingly, this is the second time it has been, and has ceased being, a La Fogata. (Although this incarnation was apparently a buffet).

I'm pretty sure this event venue has been mentioned in Have Your Say at some point, but I can't find the reference now. It may be another piece of information lost in this summer's crash.

At any rate, this place is on Saint Andrews Road just North of Seven Oaks Shopping Center and apparently closed in 2014. The real estate writeup says it's still turnkey ready and parks 50. This small image from an old Lake Murray Country promo shows that it lights up well at night too.

UPDATE 18 March 2016: Commenter Andrew notes that Kendall's Catering was co-located here, so I have added it to the post title.

The postings on the Facebook page for this Boozer Shopping Center consignment shop suggest it closed in early 2015.

This particular storefront was previously the Boozer location of Dem's House of Diamonds, now on Lake Murray Boulevard.

I've been misplacing and finding these pictures ever since commenter Rick sent them, but here they finally are. Commenter Rick says:

Attached are a few photos of my store at 2941 Two Notch Road when our new sign was going up. It does not show the building very well but in the back ground just past the McDonald's sign, you can see the old Chappy's Fish and Chips sign that you mentioned in your Carzzz 2941 post. You can also see my old 1976 blue corvette that was in the middle bay of the picture I sent from my Five Points location.

I would also note that in the background of the first picture, you can see the old AMC dealership, where I bought the worst piece of junk ever assembled: the 1983 Renault Alliance. Man, was I ever glad to see the last of that marvel of Franco-American technology.

The building on this lot is now a dental office.

This little Hispanic grocery or convienence store was in this little Rosewood plaza for a number of years adjacent to Killoy. It appears the interior is now being completely gutted for whatever comes next.
