While there are certainly still restaurants in this area of Decker, the relocation of this Chick-fil-A is yet another hit to this intersection.

In the past, we have seen the loss of Applegate's Landing, Zorba's, The Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Rush's, Little China, Sonic & Taco Cid.

This store has now moved to a new building at the former location of Atlantic Bedding & Furniture at 7515 Two Notch.

I believe commenter Haley was the first to report the actual closing, though it had been anticipated and discussed in the comments for a while.

(Hat tips to commenter Haley et al).

UPDATE 10 August 2022: Added a picture I missed before.

UPDATE 1 September 2022 -- Here is the new location in operation:

  1. This was the first non-mall (i.e. standalone) Chick-Fil-A I can remember opening in the Columbia area. It had a pretty good run and stuck around this decrepit area alot longer than I would have ever imagined.

  2. Another eating place that disappeared from here sometime in the early 80's or late 70's was Duff's. The other one was on Broad River. Decker isn't the hot spot it used to be in the late 70's to mid 80's or so. Things don't stay the same and time moves on...and Decker is a victim of of this..just like the entire Columbia Mall Place Mall or whatever it's called now and what's left of it.

  3. Speaking of Decker...what was the name of the rather large Skateboard park that used to be somewhere in the same area during the late 70's. I know it didn't last all that long, but can't remember the name of it now since that's been almost 45 years ago.

  4. @Db: Do you mean Redwing Rollerway? Or perhaps Foxcroft Skating Rink?

  5. No...this would have been located before you got to where Chick Fil A was/is. It was similar to the one that used to be at the Kmart on St. Andrew rd. I think it was just past what used to be Zorbas/Capt's Kitchen or somewhere close to that area. This would have been around 1977-78 I think. It didn't last all that long before it was torn down and filled in.

  6. I found references to skateboard park from 1979 to 1981 in the newspaper archives. The name was "Mach II."

  7. thanks..that may have been it, but I don't remember. I know it was sometime around or after 1978. I know the one that was in front to the side of Kmart on St. Andrews was around for a short time also, but don't remember the name of that one either.

  8. Pretty sad that all the playground equipment just got scrapped--looks like it could've been moved and rebuilt, perhaps in someone's backyard.
