Dollar General, 901 State Street: February 2012 6 comments
I was very surprised to hear that Dollar General had pulled out of Parkland Plaza. I guess that's because I think of the chain as downscale but savvy: A Dollar General store isn't going to be brim-full of high margin items, but they seem to know their customer base and to be quite competent at what they do.
I do know that in some places (such as Pawleys Island) they have pulled a store out of an underperforming strip mall to re-open it nearby as a standalone building, but I don't think that is the case here -- though certainly factoring together this pullout with the recent Hi-Lites pullout, Parkland Plaza has to be marked as underperforming..

Do you ever post things that are about to close? I just heard Kroger on St. Andrews by I-26 was closing on the 27th. Have you heard this?

Yes, sometimes I don't wait. I don't know if I will or not in this case.
And, yep, somebody mentioned that Kroger just recently.

@Victoria, I noticed a sign indicating that the aforementioned Kroger will start to close every evening at Midnight with a reopening at 6:00 AM effective March 30 (Eatser 2059) but no signage of it closing for good. I think I am going to have to do a little further digging to see what's going on. Sparkelberry Square's Kroger did something similar about 2 years ago and it's still going so I am going to have to wait and see.

There was some work going on here 10/22/12. Yellow tape up around the front of the store.

I always thought it was odd they put the store there when there was a larger and better stocked store on Chas. HWY next to the Save-a-Lot.
I did go into this store a few times and it looks a LOT bigger empty.
