Video Magic & Mags, 5445 Two Notch Road: Late March 2012   9 comments

Posted at 12:38 am in Uncategorized

Well, it looks like Video Magic & Mags on Two Notch just before Fontaine has gone under despite (or because of?) their Low Low Rices, and that their Movies For The Entire Family are being cleared out.

This porn emporium has been there seemingly forever, and outlasted the one on the other side of Fontaine by probably a couple of decades.

It appears that a new incarnation for the building will be forthcoming shortly as the parking lot has been re-paved, the sign has already been painted over, and there seems to be a stream of folks in and out working on the interior.

  1. Wow - finally. That dump really has been there forever.

  2. Sometime in the 1990s the name was changed to the more modest sounding "Video Magic." Previously, and as far back as I can remember, it was called "Foxes X."

  3. Having only been there as a child, I knew they sold porn, but it wasn't until I was older that I realized that was what kept them financially viable. I remember it being the only place in my life where I saw BETA cassettes, and they were for rent, and this was sometime in the early 90's.

  4. This place was owned by the husband of a family friend. It is one of a few that he owned along with a few residential projects around and outside of town. With the internet, these places can't afford to stay open and that is what caused the owner to close shop. It is actually going to be reopened by his brother I believe and it may have a name change as a result. It doesn't matter cause it won't last. If Blockbuster can't stay open, how does this type of place expect to pay the bills?

  5. hmm, I was thinking the same thing about Family Video on Hardscrabble Rd. When they opened just about 3 years ago, I wondered what in the heck are they thinking? Everything is either On Demand or at Red Box and Blockbuster kiosks. I still don't know how they are still in business to this day.

  6. I went in this joint several times back in the '80s. They used to have a great selection of 'alternative smoking' paraphernalia. I always felt like I needed to take a shower after I left. Everyone that was in the place, including the employees, looked like people you would have seen on the old wanted posters that used to hang in the post office. What's worse is my Dad worked at the old Columbia Lumber Co. that was right down the street and I was always afraid he would drive by at lunch and see my car in the parking lot. Those were the days....hahaha!!

  8. @SQ, I've deleted the comment you reference.

The place is open again, BTW with a slightly new name, and apparently more emphasis on lingerie.

  9. thanks Ted. There's a time and place for "freedom of speech", but not on a site like this. Cuss language is one thing, but when it gets into "sexual" overtones, or right out blatant sex language, that's a bit too much. If Mark wants to talk about his "adventures", that's fine, but not on here. Thanks for deleting it.
