Taco Cid, 1416 Charleston Highway: July 2014 (moved) 12 comments
Well, I was going to wait until I got over to the area again to get some pictures of the abandoned old location, and the new location in operation, but that didn't happen this weekend, and there's been a lot of Taco Cid talk here lately, so I'll go ahead with what I've got.
Longtime local Mexican fast-food restaurant Taco Cid has moved from their Cayce location near Piggy Park and out to Airport Tec Plaza at 3313 Platt Springs Road.
They have moved into the old Marino's Bistro location and are now open, though they have not yet replaced the Marino's marquee.

UPDATE 21 August 2014 -- Here is the Charleston Highway location after closure:
UPDATE 10 March 2017 -- As mentioned by commenter Andrew, this building is going to pot:
UPDATE 30 August 2022: Well, color me surprised. I thought the Charleston Highway Taco Cid building was beyond salvage, but somebody has managed it, and it is now open as Perry's Gourmet Flaming Grilled Chicken!
(Also updating tags and adding map icon).

I wonder just how old that building is. I can remember when a guy named Jack owned all the Taco Cid's in Columbia, he told me his uncle started them back in (I can't remember the year he said) and that he and his wife worked for his uncle. Jack eventually took over operations (I do not know how Jack came to take over) and then Jack passed away at a very young age, in his 30's if memory serves me. I believe Taco Cid is still somehow still in the family.

Remember the controversial Taco Cid t-shirt from a few years ago about 'how to capture an illegal immigrant?'

The buildings that housed the Decker and Broad River locations are still standing. Lord knows how much work has been done to them over the years as they transitioned from one business to another.

This building will likely have a date with the excavator before much longer as I've noticed condemned signage on it...

My friends and I loved Taco Cid especially back in the late 70's and early 80's. I ate there at least 3 or 4 times a week. I loved their dinners and they had the best hot sauce. I got to know the owner/manager there quite well. His name was Jack and he was a really nice person. I was really saddened to hear of his death at such a young age. I never thought the place was quite the same without him.

No need to reiterate my love for Taco Cid. It;s been stated on here many times before. I'm sure Rick feels the same.

We used to frequent the Decker location throughout high school for lunch, and then the Cayce one in college. Best hangover/munchies food ever in my opinion. Their hot suace was addictive. The food distributor over by Williams Brice stadium stopped making the sauce for them and it was not the same. So, I heard they went back and paid up for them to continue with the old recipe.
We would go just about every Saturday, or Sunday (when they were open on Sunday) to the Cayce location in college without fail. Large chips and dip, two hard tacos, bean & cheese nacho with a large sweet tea. Big red was a favorite of some. Mouth is watering just thinking about it.
The one by Dutch square was never quite as tasty as the other two to me.palmettoconnection

Ahhh, the Big Red. My go to meal was a Big Red, a Sancho and a couple of hard tacos. Slathered with the hottest sauce they had...Good stuff!!

Wow. Taco Cid has been at the Charleston Hwy location for years. I hope they can make it at their new location. I remember going there as a kid going to tacos on Friday evening.
