Walgreens, 1537 Charleston Highway: 17 March 2025 7 comments
I would have guess this Walgreens, next to Piggie Park, was in Cayce but Google claims it is in fact West Columbia. At any rate it looks to be a newer store, built as a Walgreens and not inherited from Eckerds or Rite Aid.
According to commenter Mr. Bill, this place closed on 17 March, and the sign was down and the place basically empty when I drove by on the night of 20 March. Commenter Lavender says the building is to be demolished, which may be the only way to get rid of a Red Box, which still seemed to be plugged in & running.
(Hat tip to commenter Mr. Bill)

Does anyone know why the land to left of this former Walgreens has been for sale for such a long time? I am surprised that nobody stuck a Murphy's, a car wash, or an oil/tire change place there. Or maybe the new Cook-Out.

I think Maurice's owns that land. I hope if anyone develops it, it will be houses.

04-07 sounds about right, but it may have been as late as 07. Mooneyhan's auto was located here first. Loved walking down to this one, it was always a nice stroll and they usually had everything I needed.

My prediction is that new apartments/townhomes will be built along Knox Abbott + Charleston Highway next, after some more are crammed in near the river.

The building is listed for lease so I don’t think it’s being demolished.

@Larry - It was probably a rumor among employees. Maybe we can expect a Spirit Halloween in September?

The Google Maps streetview map shows it as open in the furthest back view of this site (August 2007). Based on that I would say that this was a ground up Walgreens that opened up somewhere in the 2004-07 timeframe and has been nothing but Walgreens the whole time...
