The B.L.D. Diner is the follow-on operation in this Trenholm Plaza space to Hooligans (which was a follow-on to Edisto Dairy). The name is an acronym for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, but the one time I went there, they were still ramping up, and started closing during my late lunch.

I presume this closing (which is "until further notice") is due to our old friend COVID-19. I hope they do come back, but Trenholm Plaza has certainly taken some unexpected hits this year, and this is one more.

  1. I'll be surprised if they come back, to be honest. I wasn't overly impressed with it the one time I went. The meal felt overly fancy given the diner feel. I had hoped for a traditional diner fare. Curiously, their Facebook has not been updated with any news of the closing and still lists them as open. The business card taped to the door for someone from the tax office does not bode well either.

  2. I heard from a friend that they do indeed have back taxes and a legal issue due to their liquor license. I doubt they will reopen as well.

  3. I ate at BLD probably 5 times and nearly every time was for brunch. I and everyone I’ve ever heard mention the food thought it was good, though some people thought it a bit pricey for what you got. Brunch seemed to be their strength, every time I went by Trenholm Plaza at night there seemed to be very few people eating here for dinner. The owner was the original franchisee of 5 Guys Burgers in SC and also had plans to open a French restaurant in the Vista around the same time he opened BLD but it never came to fruition.

  4. I enjoyed 2 or 3 visits, but like others found it to be pricey for what I got.

  5. The owner shared a video on Instagram of himself in a hospital room at MUSC and says a prolonged infection following surgery is the reason for the business closure. He says his plan is to reopen once he recovers.
