According to The State Delany's which has been open for almost 20 years will be closing on Friday 30 November 2018.

Delaney's Speakeasy, a jazz club down the street, was once under the same ownership as Delaney's. It was sold first, and then Delaney's itself was sold last year (it's not clear from the story, but I'm guessing not to the same party that bought Speakeasy).

In theory I have Irish roots, but in practice I've never been a pub goer, and never took the opportunity to visit Delaney's. From these pictures (taken several years ago), it looks like it would be a pleasant al-fresco experience in the spring or fall.

  1. When the place was sold about a year ago or so, the new owner decided he wanted to turn it into a college bar, so he got rid of the live entertainment, de-emphasized the Irish theme and cut back on the menu and food specials. As a result he alienated and/or ran off the regulars that had been helping to keep the place going for years. I know someone who had often visited the place in the past who went back in September and described the experience as "a disaster" and said the place was half empty on a Friday night. In my opinion the owner has no one but himself to blame for the pub's demise.

  2. I had the same experience. They revamped the interior, the menu, and the Wednesday pint night. It was brutal.

  3. I'll bet the same thing has happened since Taneyhill took over Group Therapy. Hell, the old website now points to a Christian therapy site in Dallas! Happy hour used to consist of a bunch of folks my age that had been going there since day one. People chilled out to 70's music and sat around and had a great time. Now I hear that he has cut a deal with the frat houses to have a Friday happy hour dance party... No wonder they are trying to contest their liquor license.

  4. I was trying to recall what it was before Delaneys? I was in college and grad school from 1988-1995 and know I went there some but it wasn't Delaneys then. I have a vague memory of it being a wing place at one point? And they had some kind of trivia nights? Anyone else remember what it was pre-Delaneys?

  5. For a while around 1988 or so, it was called "Bailey's." I think it was an Irish-themed pub, maybe.

  6. For years it was an upscale restaurant called the Lion's Head. Then in the 90s it became a Buffalo Wild Wings and later BW3

It was called Ichobod's Oasis. They had awesome wing specials and NTN trivia too.
