Hmm. I'll admit I wasn't really aware there was a jazz club in Five Points. And I guess now, there's not. The State has the story. Apparently the place has been sold, though there is no information yet on what the next tenant will be.

  1. This is sad to read/see. Speakeasy (and Delaney's) were both great. Speakeasy was a welcome change from the typical 5 Points fare and, by in large, you didn't run into the college crowd there. That was a real benefit, in and of itself.

It had its own vibe and that made it cool. Sadly, I'd be willing to be revenues were declining as people got sick of dealing with 5 Points being 5 Points.

Thank you for all the good times and good music, Speaks.

  2. Yep... This was a fun place. We used to go there more back when you could enjoy a fine cigar on the big leather couches in the back. My best memory of the place was meeting some friends there on our wedding night in 2005.

  3. I met my wife there in 2004.

  4. The way this page was worded made me wonder what the future for the former Rite Aid in 5 Points is as the last time I was down that stretch of roadway it looked like to me it was a hard hat area (I swear said Rite Aid featured here but got lost in a database crash) which lead me to believe that something new is going in...

As for this, the owner did note in the article mentioned in the main post that the place has sold so I guess it's a wait and see situation at this point to see what happens next...

  5. Does anyone recall this building housing a Pizza Inn during the 70s and 80s?

  7. Actually, it turns out Pizza Inn was in the Bohemian location.

  8. Ted, I am not sure that building has always had 3 store fronts.

  9. I'm thinking this was the place around 1988-1990 or so it was an Irish themed place called 'Bailey's' (or something like that).

  10. No idea about Bailey's, but I remember it being Mackenzie's, and I also recall the Pizza Inn, at least being right around that area.
