Cartridge World, 5343 Sunset Boulevard Suite J: 24 June 2013 6 comments
I mentioned a few days ago that the Forest Drive Cartridge World had moved.
I'm not sure which happened first, but in the same general time frame, the one on Sunset Boulevard in Topspin Plaza closed, although it is still listed on the plaza marquee. (Interestingly, everything on that marquee is a store, except Eggs Benedict..)

Their prices were NOT low -- Maybe that had something to do with this situation

Why would you go someplace that only refills cartridges when you can buy them on the internet or pick up new ones when shopping at Wally World?

Tonkatoy, replace Wally World with Staples and you have how I am towards my cartridge replacement needs.

From the Cartridge World ads I remember seeing, the prices were near that of a new cartridge. I have a Cannon MX series printer and can get a cartridge from Staples or Office Depot for about $13-$14 (colored) or $16 (black). Additionally, if I wanted to buy in bulk, Sam's Club or Costco (Augusta or Greenville) make buying new more sensible to me. Cartridge World's ads priced refilled cartridges around $12. To me that was not enough savings to warrant refilling when I wasn't sure of the quality of the refill ink. I was always afraid the ink would gum up the printer heads. Staples and Office Depot also give you $2 credit for recycling used cartridges. This credit comes once a quarter and Staples now requires that you purchase $30 worth of ink within six months of the cartridge recycling to get the credit, but the credit makes new cartridges even less expensive.

This place was terrible. Never had a cart for my hp 612. Went there a couple of time after they told me they would have it. Nope, so i never went back.

As I have nothing to do today but peruse the web, I'll get this one started. The Cartridge World on Forest Drive closed, now the one on Suset Blvd. Why?
Printer/Toner cartridges can be expensive, so the idea of a refilled cartridge makes sense to me if the price is less than a new one. I never patronized Cartridge World due to the proximity of their stores to where I live. But the idea holds water.
With that said, I must comment on similar post I have made in the past. One being that any business with the word "World or Town" in it's name, in my humble opinion, never last long. Of course there are exceptions. Disney World, Food Town, which changed to Food Lion here but is still popular in other areas of the country. So a name change COULD make a difference.
I have also mentioned before that I am thinking of going back into business. Refilling Toner Cartridges could be a money maker if one were to offer more services than just selling refilled cartridges. I have not seen any advertisments from CW that state they did anything else but sell refilled cartridges.
So we need to think, What other services would someone need, that was buying a toner cartridge, refilled or not? Someone that printed a lot and wants to save money? Any business that offers more than one service will make more money.
Maybe printer repair. Maybe Copy Paper. Maybe even Computers. Hmmm.. starting to sound like a Staples. Okay lets take a different route and stick with refilled cartridges. As I said the proximity to the store kept me from buying. Maybe online sales. Maybe really small store fronts with minimal rent cost but a lot of them.
Okay I'm stuck, any ideas from all my intellectual friends that visit this site? We could open a cartridge refill store and make money, now that the market in Columbia appears to be wide open.
