Leesburg Convienence Store & Deli, 1800 Leesburg Road: late 2000s   4 comments

This attractive little building is at the intersection of Leesburg Road and Fairmont Drive. With its vertical bisecting brick riser, it would seem to date from the same architectural era as Sunshine Cleaners and this Augusta Road service station, and in fact this property valuation gives the construction date as 1963.

I feel sure it started as a gas station, and judging from the island out front, was still one, albeit in a different format, when it closed. I'm not sure when that was. For some reason, I thought that restaurant "A" stickers had dates on them, but that apparently is not the case. At any rate, it wasn't too long ago, as the building still has some non-essential items inside with signs that it is looked in on from time to time.

  1. This was a service station for a long time with service bays, I use to know the name of the man that owned it or maybe still owns the property but I forgot what it is. When the station closed he or someone did the slight remodel and I watched wondering when the store would open, it never did. The property also includes the building just behind it where Fairmont TV service was. It closed just a short time ago. Hey Ted check that one out. Donald Swartz owned Fairmont TV, he took it over from his Dad years ago. I believe he closed because the TV repair business is not what it used to be with throw away electronics these days.

  2. There is a dumpster there now and some activity. I don't know if he owned the property but Carl Estridge ran the station in the late 80's. Carl moved from 1300 Leesburg Road. He serviced the Post Office trucks. He had an ace mechanic in Raymond Tillett. Carl's ex married Frawley of music store fame.

  3. There is signage up indicating that this will become the Wildcat Cafe. Stay tuned. . . .

  4. I just don't see where a cafe has adequate parking at this location.

From an earlier post by Rick, Fairmont TV is still in operation. Don moved the business to Lexington and services mostly large screen TVs today. I do not mind plugging for him, because he does good work on LCD and LED units.
