Palmetto Beauty & Wigs, 6801 Saint Andrews Road: 27 June 2014 no comments
If you look at the right of the first picture above, you can (barely) see Palmetto Beauty & Wigs in operation back in June 2013. Looking at their Facebook page it seems that they carried on for about another year, closing on 27 June 2014, which would mean this slot in Irmo's Quail Valley Plaza has been vacant for about a year and a half.

This storefront, on the same block as the new Mast was until recently one of Columbia's improbable number of wig stores. I'm not as surprised that it closed as I am at how long it lasted in what has been a pretty poor location for retail since at least the mid 1970s. In fact, though I wish everybody well, I am sceptical of a long term "Mast effect" on this area, especially given that a number of the closings on this block are fairly recent.

It looks like Elegante Wig Gallery, in the old Electrolux location on Devine Street has closed. I'm the wrong gender (and still have my hair so far..) so there's not much more I can say about it, other than it was not there too long as seemingly it started around 2008.

I've never really been in the market for a wig, but I have noticed this store on Beltline between Two Notch and Farrow off and on over the years. The name never really registered with me, but this time when I saw it closed, I finally made the connection with the store which took over the Two Notch location of Floor It Now -- I'm pretty sure it moved from here to there.
Guess you could say it flipped its wig..
