South Carolina State Fair 2023, Fairgrounds: 22 October 2023 7 comments
Well the State Fair has come and gone. No big surprises this year. The retro swing ride at the intersection of the central way and the North Midway corridor is still gone. I guess it won't be coming back. Somehow the baby duck slide survived another year, and we had some new greasy goodness with doughnut-burgers and Wisconsin fried cheese curds. Aprt from the sky ride, the Bumper Cars were the only place I spent my tickets this year, and there's (somewhat badly focused) video of that below. Those issues (really time for a new camera) are apparent in the skyway video above as well, but I think it gets the spirit of things.
As for the rest, if you've followed these posts, you know what I like, and I liked the same things this year. It's always nice to be out and about on the grounds after sundown!
Next year is coming..

Thanks for sharing your photos. The cheese curds were probably my favorite food that I tried this year. The Cast in Bronze carillon was really cool. I was intrigued by the mirror couple but never stumbled upon them.

I haven't been to the fair in about 6 or 8 years...the last thing I remember trying foodwise was the Krispy Kreme doughnut burger...it seemed like folks I mentioned it to either had it or cringed at the thoguht of trying it...
BTW this year's post (as well as last year's) didn't make the Alphabetical list like the previous ones have...

This is the first fair that I've intentionally missed since 2001. I was turned off by the high prices to park and the entry fee. I remember going multiple times 14 years ago but I can't see spending that kind of money and not getting something more than indigestion.

I was a bit put off to find that parking is now $10 -- if you get the Circle K discount, that's almost as much as a ticket. And I have a problem with them not taking cash as well.

@ted - Yes! I had my $10 bill all ready to go, which would have taken all of 1 second to give to the attendant, but instead spent 30-45 seconds fishing out my wallet, fishing out a card, sticking it in the reader, and waiting for the transaction to process. Grrrrrr.

Nothing memorable at the State Fair this year, to me the fair is always feeling smaller as each year passes. Seems to me that the fair just hasn’t recovered from the lackluster disaster of the 150th anniversary Fair in 2019.
That said, at least there was good weather and nothing of incident this year. Here’s to the 2024 Fair next year!
