Vegetable Medley, 309 Oak Drive: 7 December 2017 (temporary?) 8 comments
I was unaware of this little country-cooking restaurant a bit behind the old Piggly-Wiggly on US-1. The street, Oak Drive, doesn't look like the kind of place that would have any businesses, but there it is.
The door sign cites tax issues and has a postscript suggesting the place will re-open.

Oak Grove BBQ was open back in the '70s but the building did not look like this then. It may have been a concrete block building.

@Joe Shlabotnik I think you are correct, before it was Vegetable Medley, it was Chavis BBQ, not Oak Grove.

I grew up just down the road from here; it is not the same location as the old Oak Grove BBQ (which was further up Oak Drive). That place burned to the ground some time in the late 80s; I remember seeing the building the day after on my way to school.

Oak Grove had some of the best BBQ and hash in Columbia. Shed a tear the day it burned.

This place was hit and miss when it was open.
It used to be Oak Grove BBQ and seemed better when it was operating under that name.
The owner is in trouble for tax evasion: https://dor.sc.gov/resources-site/media-site/Pages/LEXINGTON-COUNTY-BUSINESS-OWNER-ARRESTED-FOR-EVADING-$34K-IN-TAXES.aspx
They only accepted cash and checks which was frustrating in an age of debit cards. I think this might be part of the tax issue.
