Atlantic Bedding & Furniture, 6420 Garners Ferry Road: February 2017 5 comments
I'm not sure when Atlantic Bedding & Furniture opened in Cedar Terrace, but it must have been after October 2009, as you can see its slot vacant in the closing for the Cedar Terrace Fred's.
It seems to be a well organized liquidation -- I even got a flyer in the mail.
With this closing, the big back building, which looks to be a former grocery to me, will be completely vacant, at least for the nonce.
UPDATE 16 August 2017 -- Actually though I list the closing date as February 2017 in the post title, this closing sale lasted quite a bit longer than I expected, and was well advertised all over town. It appears that the doors have now definitely closed:
UPDATE 27 September 2021: Updating tags and adding map icon.

In the 70s, this was a Dodd's, a five-and-dime. To the left was the Piggly Wiggly. I suppose the Diamond Disco and the subsequent Diamond Arcade was in the Dodd's spot. Confirmation, please.

I never could keep Rose's and Dodd's straight. They seemed to be interchangeable. The aroma in both stores was the same.

Cedar Terrace. Strange little shopping center. It is mostly parking lot. More parking area than all the business's in the whole shopping center could possibly need.

Search shows that Cedar Terrace shopping Center is owned by who appears to be the widow of Van McAlister. Van passed away in 2013 according to the obituary I saw online.
Van McAlister was owner of McAlister Builders.
His company built homes around the state. I believe he built many of the homes in the Cedar Terrace neighborhood just behind the shopping center, the homes in the Yorkshire neighborhood next to St. Marks Wood, if not St Marks also, and possibly homes not far behind Lower Richland High School in the Quail Creek neighborhood among many others.
Cedar Terrace was built in 1960 according to county records. Records also show the shopping center to be about 8.5 acres and the taxable value to be around 1.75 million dollars.
The taxable value that Richland County puts on many properties can actually be up to 1/2 to 1/3 lower than what the owner might be able to sell the property for.Rick

I believe this location was a Rose's store in the early to mid '70s.
