Huddle House, 1141 Cottingham Boulevard (Bennettsville): Summer 2022 4 comments
I did some driving around in parts of the state I don't usually get to during July. I think I've featured a few of those closings already, and there will be some more in the future. As far as I know, I had never been down this stretch of road in Bennettsville before, on SC-9 heading towards Dillon.
I honestly don't think I've ever eaten in a Huddle House either, though it's possible I did in Fernandina once. Anyway, I've always thought of them as sort of a discount Waffle House, and the, almost uniformly bad, reviews for this place don't dissuade me from that notion. (To be fair, there are some positive reviews). At any rate it sounds to me they were having extreme post-COVID staffing issues, and I think you can disregard the the Now Hiring signage.
Hampton Street Diner, 1840 Hampton Street: September 2018 5 comments
Hampton Street Diner opened on 3 December 2017 in the former location of Nathan's. By the time I got around to the Nathan's closing, most of the Hampton Street Diner upfit was already done, so I am repeating those pictures here.
The State had this story about the (then upcoming) opening of the new restaurant.
Although it looked like a good place to try a burger, I never did make it by for lunch, and the last time I drove by, there was signage to the effect of either new management or new ownership, so apparently there was a major change at some point.
I do like the parting sentiment that while not everything works out, life goes on.

UPDATE 9 January 2020 -- Now Vegans International Organic Cafe & Juice Bar:
Marion's Diner, 1251 Boston Avenue: Early 2018 no comments
I happened to turn down Boston Avenue behind Lizard's Thicket in Springdale today, and noticed this closed diner that I had not been aware of. I'm guessing it was built in the 1960s for some fast food chain, but the last tenant was Marion's Diner (listed in the phonebook simply as Diner). They have a number of very good reviews online, and appear to have combined Southern Meat & Three with standard fast-food offerings.
You can see some pictures of the place in operation here.
Sunset Grill & Pizza, 1729 Marshall Street: August 2016 no comments
This was the follow-on operation to BJ's Cafe, and looks to have been open only during the spring & summer of 2016.
As commenter badger speculated it is now to become Chickadees Diner location and according to their Facebook they hope to be open at the start of October.
