We've talked about this move in various places here over the past few months, but clothing store Hamrick's has finally made the move from the now totally defunct (for retail) MarketPointe Centre into the old Circuit City building across I-20 at 1950 Bush River Road.

As you can see, construction has already started at the old location to refit it for the expansion of the existing SCDOR offices at MarketPointe.

  1. The following domino effect is being set into motion here:

Hamrick's moved into a building that has been vacant for 13 years.

SCDOR offices will be moving out of the SC State Museum into this building.

SC State Museum will have a little extra office space to work with once SCDOR moves out.

  2. This Circuit City location for Hamricks is actually the third location for this store. It was originally in an out-parcel of Outlet Pointe, on the right as you came into the mall. After they moved into MarketPointe/Outlet Pointe a book warehouse took over for a period of time. This was sometime in the early 90's.

  3. I vaguely remember the book warehouse ED mentions. I recall the interior of it looking lke a warehouse. I now find myself wondering what it was called.

It seems as if it turned over a couple of times and finally was razed to make way for the CVS that now sits on this site (following their 1997 acquisition).

  4. I remember the book store as well. No idea what the name was. Back in the day they had a couple of racks of all kinds of cheap software for your PC. I would go in there about twice a month just looking for some game or program that caught my eye. I've still got some of the discs stashed away somewhere. Anyone got a floppy drive I can borrow?? I also bought some cheap cook books and some marked down Stephen King novels. Now that I think about it, that store started my Stephen King collection.

  5. The final piece of the puzzle of the relocation I noted earlier is now clear after a visit to the SC State Museum earlier this month as follows:

Hamrick's has moved into a building that has been vacant for 13 years.

SCDOR offices have moved out of the SC State Museum into this building.

SC State Museum is undergoing an expansions and part of their expansion means utlizing the old SCDOR space with a more spacious lobby, shops and reception events.
