Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), 4439 Augusta Road: Summer 2012 7 comments
I had a hard time finding this Kentucky Fried Chicken in the phonebook because they actually still listed as "Kentucky Fried Chicken" rather than KFC. Good for them! (Interestingly, other KFCs are listed some at the front of the 'K' section with the acronyms and others alphabetically after the "KE" businesses..).
Anyway, they are definitely listed in this year's (February 2012) phonebook, and I'm guessing from commenter Brandi's heads-up that they probably closed very recently. Certainly, as you can see, the store has yet to be stripped of all the equipment and fixtures, and the place doesn't yet seem to be listed as for sale.
(Hat tip to commenter Brandi)

I grew up in Kentucky, and KFC used to be good (I know, I know, "in the olden days..."), but it seems to me they just can't get it right anymore. My father and I have both agreed that around here, Bojangles has KFC soundly beaten. Doesn't surprise me they're all closing. That one on Broad River Road, next to Taco Bell, has got to be next. It's awful.

Matthew, you got me to thinking...I didn't like KFC when I was in Elementary School but finally started to warm up to it sometime around 2002 and enjoy the Colonel's Strips. I am not a fan of 'boned' chicken due to the messiness it tends to be but I can do boneless. Depsite that, KFC isn't as strong as they used to be. Go to the 'Alphabetical closings' list (link on the top page) and note several other KFC locations that have closed. While KFC is still stronger than Ryan's, Captain D's and Quincy's, they still aren't as strong as they once were.

Andrew, it's funny because growing up, we had chicken on the bone, and there was no such thing as strips or nuggets or anything like that. Yes, those options did exist, but you just didn't do it. And when I moved down here, I found a lot of people weren't fans of on-the-bone chicken. It's just a neat little cultural thing.
I introduced my Father to Zesto's chicken one of the times he came to visit, and after swearing he wouldn't like it as much as KFC, he had to recant after getting the two piece snack. And I got to give him an "I told you so."

This was around the corner from my old house in SC. I recently moved to Louisville, KY and we have some KFC's that have closed and got the same treatment- A greyish-black paint job. A KFC conspiracy?

The McDonald's within a quarter-mile radius of this location at 4364 Augusta Road is undergoing a rebuild, but the thing of it is this: the dining area is being rebuilt but the kitchen side of the building is staying intact for the time being (latest in a plan by the golden arches to rebuild most of their 14,000 US locations over the next several years)

I used to work here back in 2006. Wasn't brown like this. Was white just like all the other KFCs. Sucks to know they redid it just to close it down.
