Carwash, 334 Harbison Boulevard: Mid 1990s   6 comments

Posted at 11:20 pm in closing

While I was taking pictures out on Harbison the other day, I ran across this Subway in the Shell station lot at the corner of Harbison and Park Terrace.

From the way an access lane leads right to the building (and out out the non-pictured side), I can form no other conclusion than that this Subway was once a drive-through carwash!

UPDATE 31 May 2011: Change closing date from "2000s" to "Mid 1990s" based on the comments.

  1. I have a vague recollection of a gas station carwash being here but except for the fact that it most likey was a soft cloth car wash of some sort, my recolection is fuzzy (since touch free car washes weren't mainstream at that point).

  2. If there was a car wash here it would have been prior to 1997. I know for a fact that the Subway was there by then as my wife worked in the mall then and it was one fo her favorite places for lunch.

  4. Definately a car wash. But it has been a Subway waaaaaaaay longer than it was a carwash.

  5. After further thought on this matter, I don't have any problem backing what Tom said about this closing in the late 1990s and becoming Subway. Be that as it may, it does appear to me that at the time of it being a car wash, it was an Amoco Station.

I was in Elementary School in the 90s and can vaguely remember the car wash being here. I'll see if I can figure out any further details.

  6. I think Andrew is right, that it was an Amoco before it was a Shell.
