Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts, 6820 Garners Ferry Road: August 2010 (moved) 9 comments
I'm not much of a fabric guy. I think I have written before about how my mother used to frequent fabric stores at Forest Lake Shopping Center and Trenholm Plaza, and how the dye in the air would always make me stuffy and my eyes tear up. Furthermore, I never learned to sew -- so I never visited Jo-Ann Fabrics in Landmark Square on Garners Ferry Road at I-77.
They seem to be doing pretty well though, as they have just moved to a much larger location, the old Goody's building on Two Notch Road by Wal Mart.
The move does something to recoup the Goody's bankruptcy blow to the Two Notch plaza, but certainly doesn't help Landmark Square any. At one time (when Woolco was the anchor) the place was doing pretty well, and I would have thought that having I-77 come through would have helped, but apparently not. (And, I'll admit it is a bit of a pain to get onto Garners Ferry when you're headed towards the airport on 77).
UPDATE 22 March 2011 -- here's the Garners Ferry facade work mentioned in the comments:
UPDATE 20 May 2011 -- It's to be It's Fashion Metro:

Citi Trinds Is Moving Next Door To Jo-An On 2 Nocth Road
-
@Javier I think what is going on is that JoAnn took over most of the former Goody's and Citi Trends is taking over the remaining portion that Goody's didn't take over

I am wondering if something is coming to the vacant Garners Ferry Road location? They have a sign over the Dollar General that says it is open and they seem to be working on the old Joan's too. I am wondering if maybe Dollar General is moving in the bigger space perhaps? Just thought I would investigate and I will keep watching to see what is happening too!

After Mrs. SK suggested something was going on, I decided to do a little investigation of my own and determined the following was going on:
Dollar General, Big Lots and Sherwin Williams Paint appear to be getting new storefronts (and all 3 are remaining in operation while this is going on to the best of their respective abilities). They aren't going anywhere, they simply are getting new storefronts and folks are there working.
The former JoAnn Fabrics will be a clothing store according to a building permit I saw in the window. No further details are available to me at this point as to what said site is called.
I took a few pics to help chronicle what will become of this as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I have established visual confirmation that this former JoAnn Fabrics location is undergoing transformations to become an It's Fashion Metro. It is a division of The Cato Corporation. This will be their first location in the Columbia market. Columbia has several It's fashion (as well as Cato) locations but no It's Fashion Metro locations.
Also, The storefront upgrades of Sherwin Williams, Big Lots and Dollar General are complete. The Krispy Kreme is coming along in the former BoA in the site outparcel but no word on when that will come online.

Originally, this was a Cloth World. I can recall being dragged by grandma as a boy.
