Commenter Tom mentioned that this Irmo Corner Pantry Exxon at the I-26 Peak exit had been torn down for the ongoing road work in the area. By the time I got to the area, there was really nothing left to see, but you can view the old building at this LoopNet listing and by clicking through to old images in Google Streetview.

  1. Before this was a Corner Pantry, it was a pretty nice gas station. This was years ago, around 1998-2000 or so. It had Green in the name, but I cannot recall exactly what the name was. It had gone way downhill and before it was demolished was not somewhere I'd stop regularly, in favor of the much nicer and newer gas station close to the DMV.

  2. This interchange is going to get an overhaul as part of the I-26 widening...plans I've seen have lead me to believe that it will be a diverging diamond interchange when all is said and done...

  3. For a long time it carried the name Evergreen's. We used to go in there every so often for a snack when we were out and about, and for some reason I recall the smell of cigarettes in the place. I concur with Mike that it did seem to get rougher as years passed. When the plans came through to redo Exit 97 it was no surprise the place was doomed. One day it was there and the next it was flattened. Oh, well. Exit 97 has filled me with dread for a long time and it's long overdue for a remodel, but it is a start to see familiar landmarks suddenly gone.
