Hardee's, 1413 Charleston Highway: Late March 2019 8 comments
The case of Hardee's is kind of curious. I saw several more closed on the cost on my last trip, and if you google for Hardee's closings, you will find lots. What you won't find, or at last what I didn't find, is any article about the chain being in trouble.
This particular location is, like the Pawleys Island one, very close to one of the newly remodeled McDonald's stores.

The first Hardee's in Columbia were the ones over Ft. Jackson Blvd and the one on Knox Abbot Dr. I think back in 1966 ? But I'm not sure what year they opened.

I went to this particular location during the flood from a few years back, and to me, it was a pain in the rear end getting in and out of that little area. But since that side of town is dying out (not that it was ever a bustling metro type area), and just a matter of time before other things go away. Is that old Kmart still in that area? It needs to be torn down or something.

The Kmart Del asked about this is still operating and I still shop there (and likely will as long as it remains in business)...
Ted's blurb about the plethora has me theorizing that the one at Dutch Square (which has been mentioned but hasn't featured here yet) is impacted by the same issue as the others (but the details are liable to not be public)...

I use that K-Mart all the time, that side of town is actually growing pretty well. I live over that way. It's really been making a comeback since SCANNA moved over here.
I actually liked this Hardee's, always got good service, but they were never busy.

I lived in Cayce one year while attending USC. Went to this Hardees several times and always had good service. I guess it's only another 5 to 10 minutes up the road to reach the other Hardees so I can see why this one was closed, especially if it's the older of the two. I'll take a Hardees thickburger over any burger from McD's anytime.

It's funny how far away that other Hardees seems to be. I know you're right, about 5 minutes, but it sure seems longer.

My eyeball test says that most Hardees/Carl's Jr, Arby's, Wendy's, and BK that I drive by are noticeable slower. Chick-fil-A's always seem busy, McD's steady.
