I have tried to go to The Mouse Trap three times, but in the event only managed it once.

The first time was years ago, probably the early 80s, and I just could not find the place. I had seen it once at that point, and knew it was in the office complex off Forest Drive, but after driving around twenty minutes or so, I gave it up as a bad job and went somewhere else. (Was it originally at a different location in this plaza? Because I have no problem now).

The second time was with some folks from the CS department at USC during a homecoming event. No problem finding it this time (I may have been following someone) and the food was fine, though I have very little memory of it.

The third time was a year or two ago when I decided, Hey, it's been 10 or 15 years; time for another visit!, but it turned out to be one of those places that close between "lunch" & "dinner".

Anway, they are now closed for remodeling. The inside looks a bit torn up and there is a storage container out back, so I think work has started, though the sign doesn't give any ETA.

  1. When I worked for Digiital Systems in the 2700 Middleburgh , this was our watering hole. In the 80s there were 2 sides to the place. You had to go through the double doors in the middle and turn right to get to the restaurant side. There was a smaller door near the corner where you could get to the big/bar side. They gave up the big side for a while then expanded into what you see today.

They do a pretty decent burger. Their Lunch special is usually a meat & 3, better than Lizard's Thicket. Not quite as good as Crackerbarrel. The "Steak Sandwich" is a great 8oz ribeye with 2 pieces of Texas toast, and when they have it, they make the best Reuben's in town.

The place is run by Bill Jerry and until she passed away, his wife Elizabeth.

  2. Looks like they'll be opening soon. This is their web site: https://mousetrapsodacity.com/ which doesn't have much information but it points to their Facebook page which has lots of info.

Looks like Bill Jerry's son took over the place and decided to upscale the food plus expand into serving breakfast.

They only have a Wine menu so far. I'm looking forward to their new menu. One of the things I *really* didn't like about the place was their not opening for dinner until 7pm which was late for me. The idea was to get you to drink a lot at the bar before dining. Now that they're focusing more on the food, I'm sure the kitchen will have more reasonable hours.
